So are all the motorists speeding by and for some reason you've mentioned not one word about them.

    Funny that.

If you want to start a thread about motorist's mistermeaners, then I would be happy to. This thread is about cyclists apparently. But if it makes you happy then yes, drivers who drive at night or in fact during the day in poor visibility are very naughty as well.

    Happy now?

    What planet are you on???????????????

What does any cyclist pay?, insurance...........................No

    Road tax?...................................................................No

    Compliance with any legislation?...................................No

@cyclonebri1 - you are pedalling three myths.

    The Insurance Myth
Most home owners in Britain have a third party liability insurance covering cycling, all CTC members have one, too. Therefore you have millions of cyclists in Britain with third party liability insurance for something that does not pose much of a risk anyway.

According to DfT estimates, 1.3 million drivers on British roads drive uninsured. Using a powerful combustion engine to move a tonne of metal down the public highway is inherently dangerous.

    The "Road Tax" Myth
Winston Churchill abolished road tax in 1937!!! Nobody in the UK pays road tax, it does not exist and while some taxes have labels the government puts all tax revenue into one big pot and spends as they wish. The combination of taxes on petrol and VED provide more revenue than is used on the upkeep of our roads. These are funds necessary to fight the obesity epidemic, despots in oil exporting countries, tackle cardiovascular disease, global warming and to provide for free bus passes for OAPs.

Many cool cars like the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.3 JTM-2 85PS Sprint Diesel, some Audis like the A3 1.6 TDI 105PS, the BMW New 1 Series 116D Efficient Dynamics, several Citroens like the new C4 1.6 e-HDi 110PS Airdream EGS6 VTR+, some Mini Coopers, some Skodas like the Octavia 1.6 TDI CR Greenline II, many VWs and other respectable VED band-A cars pay zero car tax! Paying car tax is a choice, not a need!

There are thousands of people in the UK who have found ways to escape increasing petrol cost and taxation, some examples: http://iitm.be/ccyclists

    The compliance myth
Too many road users do not comply with the highway code, many seem to be ignorant of it. Passing a driving test does not stop drivers from stoping in mandatory cycle lanes and advanced stop lines, going through red lights, not using indicators, exceeding the speed limit etc. Speed kills, cyclists don't.

I am pedalling nothing, I can't, I fell off my bike in 2007 fracturing my skull in two places, and my neck and my spine.

I'm ok just gratefull to exist, get my angst???????????

Bad driving kills. Bad cycling does too. If you don't understand that you are a menace on the roads, however you use them.

why would you think there was more of a tendency?
could it becaause cycling is on the increase? drivers can't be trusted or what?
I do it sometimes depending on junction, road conditions, traffic etc

I'd like to think it's the Darwinian thing, those that don't are dead as Dodo's :(:(

But seriously I would say it's down to increased road pressure and lack of driving knowledge/skill by the ever increasing couldn't give a toss brigade.

I have drifted both ways in this topic simply because there's been sense and nonsense forwarded by both factions;)

Have you got stats for that, ie how many people were killed by cyclists in 2009, 2010 and 2011?

so every cyclist should pull to the left at every right turn.
or else they deserve what they get?

ERRRR, I think you said that not me.

I inferred that any cyclist with a modicom of common sense aka self preservation, if the traffic conditions dictated, would pull to the left and take the safe option rather than get splattered. You added the rest, but trying to take a non partial aspect doesn't seem to work with you.
Open your mind before your mouth, I don't you as a bonnet mascot.
