Hi All
News from the PigginSkint household:
Yesterday I got my documents back from the student loans people, which seems to suggest that I have sent everything I needed to, which is a relief. No letter yet to confirm the deferral but I suppose that will arrive in due course.
I think I might actually be getting through to OH. Yesterday evening I mentioned about the Halifax bill (this is the one that he is responsible for paying because it is nearly all his debt) and just asked casually whether he would have enough to pay it (I don’t think he has). He said that he would be going to bank to talk to them to sort it out. What that means, I don’t really know and he didn’t elaborate, but at least he is actually doing something about it! I had planned to offer to pay my bit of the bill if that would help him – part of the balance is the finance for my double glazing which I transferred over to this card last year. I have worked out how much of the balance is mine (roughly £1600-£1700) and as the minimum payment is 2%, that works out to £30-40, which would leave OH about £140-£150 to find, instead of about £180. Anyway, as he has said that he is sorting it, I will leave that for now.
The other thing I did over the weekend, which I don’t think I have reported on yet, was to do a list of my monthly household bills (not including any of my debt) together with a calculation of what half of each amount is, so that OH can see how much he should be contributing. The total amount for the bills (not including food or debt repayments) is about £660, so half is about £330. I printed this list off and gave it OH last night, along with printouts of certain pages from my spreadsheet – credit card balances (since August 2006) and total debts (since August 2006). I also managed to get a snowball of my credit cards done yesterday so I printed off the results of that to give to him. He has now got plenty to peruse and inwardly digest!
I think I have managed to frighten him sufficiently of the consequences if he doesn’t get his act together! When we had a serious talk the other week I told him that he was putting our relationship in jeopardy. A week or two ago I also told him jokingly (but there is many a true word spoken in jest) that if he didn’t behave himself, he would have to go and stay at his Mom’s (who only has a one-bedroomed flat so he would have to sleep on the sofa) or, even worse, his Dad’s!
I think the thought of having to stay at his Dad’s house would be enough to frighten anyone. Think of the sorts of houses featured on ‘How Clean is Your House’ with Kim and Aggie – apparently his house is worse! I have never actually been inside because OH has always said that I really wouldn’t want to! Regardless of the state of his house, I certainly wouldn’t want to live with him anyway and I know OH wouldn’t either – he is a strange old fruit and certainly not the cleanest of men. Think Albert Steptoe and you are not far away!
Anyway, today’s to-do list is as follows:
· Do Avon order online
· Work out how much I need to pay (minus any returns and credits), work out whether I have got enough to pay it and how much I need to find from elsewhere to cover it
· Post 2 Amazon parcels
· Do a new Sainsbury’s order
· Do a small amount of housework – I will see what takes my fancy
· Write a letter to my home insurance providers – a job that is woefully overdue!
· Make a chocolate refrigerator cake from the recipe posted on Hypno’s diary thread - I have now bought a cheap packet of rich tea biscuits so I have all the ingredients now. Yum!
I think that is enough to be going along with!
I realised yesterday that we actually get paid early this month – normally we get paid the last but one working day of the month but in August we get paid before the bank holiday. This means we will get paid on Friday next week instead of the following Thursday. Very good timing considering the state of our finances this month!! :j
Anyway, I suppose I really ought to do some work now!
Bye all!!

Hello.....just a thought (dismiss it if appropriate!)
Your debts seem to be "my element" and "his element" yet mixed up on the cards etc.....
Therefore, even though you may pay "your bit", if he doesn't pay his, you are in danger of getting into trouble in your own name, but not through any fault of your own. So, therefore, you could end up paying the full amount due simply to avoid a black mark against your name.
Would it not be better to have "your debt" in "your name" and "his debt" in "his name" (sorry about all the """"""s) then when he can't pay it, the consequences are his to deal with, not yours when you have enough going on!
Once you have separated the debts properly it is much easier to see who has got to find what........then next you can sting him for his half of the household bills......
......then he might get the message, really and truly, that he has to get a job that pays......sharpish!
Hope this doesn't come across out of turn....but it does seem like you are mixing up the debt when it could be much simpler, and much less risk for you personally.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Hypno
I know what you are saying and I completely agree with you. I would love to split his debt from mine - if only it were that simple!! Unfortunately because of OH's chronic disorganised state regarding money and because he has had money problems in the past (and also because he earns so little) he is unable to get a credit card. I don't know whether he could get a loan either - I doubt it! In fact, it wasn't until he opened a business bank account that he was able to even get a debit card!
I suppose we will have to see what the bank say when he talks to them.
Thanks for your input - I do appreciate it!PigginSkint's debt free diary

I have just been down to post my 2 Amazon parcels. As expected, the profit on one of them was wiped out by the cost of the postage – I thought I had removed all the listings where this was likely to happen but this one must have slipped under the radar. The listed price was 1p, I will receive £1.41 but it cost me £1.63 to post, so a loss of 22p! Oh well, these things happen! But the good news is that I did make a tidy profit (over £5) on the other item on the item I posted, so that makes up for it I suppose!

I have to confess I am not having the best of days today. This morning when I first got to work, I was stood waiting for the kettle to boil when the zip in my trousers decided to break. Luckily I have a long top on today so I can hide it! When I went out a lunchtime it chucked it down with rain so I got absolutely soaked (luckily I did have my waterproof on but I so wish I had brought my waterproof trousers with me today). Luckily my trousers are polyester so they have dried out quite quickly (with the help of the fan heater under my desk) but my knickers are still quite damp – yuk! I could have coped with all of that but now my IBS has decided to have a flare up so I am now sat here in pain, with a football match going on inside me and my stomach swollen up like a balloon. Luckily I had a couple of my tablets with me (in my emergency pill tin which also contains a couple of migraine tablets) so I have taken one – I hope it kicks in soon!PigginSkint's debt free diary
