I have a problem which appears to be very similar to this one on my Potterton Suprima 30 which was installed when the house was built in 2001.

I have spoken to Heat Team about this today and they say it will be a £259 fixed charge to repair the boiler and that the fault with the PCBs was not present until 2004 at the earliest.

Has anyone had any luck with Potterton helping with the costs of fixing this common fault?

new PCB purchased and fitted which has resolved the problem, i'm assuming the fact that the new one is modified potterton have recognised the old one was substandard
  • Have a 2002 installed Suprima 50 and have had the cut-out problem on and off for a few years, soldered dry joints etc over time and was working fine until yesterday. No problem with the resetting, just not starting the fan when called for. Local engineer came round (FOC diagnosis - nice chap!) and diagnosed the PCB was dead. Said he could fix it, but would be £300 and suggested I contacted Potterton directly, as they include a 12 month warranty for pretty much the same price.

Basically what Potterton offered today with their Heat Team is a fixed price of ~£329 (12 x ~£27.40 direct debit) to fix whatever is wrong with the boiler, including parts, labour & travel and also include 12 months warranty cover on the boiler should there be any more problems. Value of repair cover is upto £1500 total (inc VAT) for the year.

For the extra 12 months cover and considering i was looking at £300 anyway, I think the extra £30 is worth it, particularly if the PCB has masked any further problems.

Hope this info is of use for anyone else unlucky enough to experience the 'joy' of this boiler.

the fault with the PCBs was not present until 2004 at the earliest.

Ours was installed in 2001 and we had at least 2 replacement circuit boards because of the problem described. It only stopped happening after we got BG to do the job instead of a local plumber and this was because they were using an up to date PCB i.e. v2 to replace the faulty one. Hasn't happened since. Potterton at the time (about 2004) denied it was a problem and said I was a one off. I don't think my next boiler will be that make.
  • Hi there,

I've just been shown the defective part on the old style circuit board. Engineer knew exactly where to locate it.
Hopefully he will solve my failed boiler problems, once this circuit board has been replaced.

Hopefully I can do this, if it does :j
  • Our Suprima 60 has been playing up off and on for years. Had the whole family trained to press the reset button. Just died, looks like permanently. Found this thread. Thanks to all for the info.
  • Apple can do a whole iPad for £399. Pottterton must be making an absolute fortune off these faulty £5.00 boards!!
