  • Following the Watchdog program, I wrote to 'heateam' who offered one year Gold Star service for free. This would involve an initial assessment visit which would include a service!
As I had only just had the boiler serviced and the PCB replaced, this wasn't really helpful, so I declined the offer and sent the service invoices for the last 4 years.
A cheque for £100 came by return post. Which I guess is more than I expected, so I'm happy. :j

I had the same problem couple of years ago and ended up replacing the PCB. After hearing the BBC, I wrote to them and received £100 as a goodwill gesture.

I said to them that I was taping the call (I only told them this in the late stage of the call) and they started to take me more seriously. They replaced the part FOC. Before this, they refused and expected me to pay.

did you have a Suprima 120L? How did you describe your problem to them? Did you speak to their technical department or just customer services?

How old was your boiler? We had ours installed in 2003.

Mine is a Suprima 30L.. I stated it was the locking out problem and explained it was the common fault that was on Watchdog. Our house was built in 2001, it came with the house. The repair was done last year.

by locking out i presume you mean when the boiler has the red blinking and the it not firing until you press the reset button??

I mentioned this to the customer services person shen transfered me to the technical department who said the 120L, my model, does have this problem.

Do you know where I can get the watchedog report from?
  • I've got a Suprema 50 that was installed by BG in 2001. They changed the PCB some years ago. Recently it started exhibiting the lock out problem, but BG couldn't find a problem, and didn't do anything. This morning we woke up to the smell of burning and smoke in the house. Tracked it down to the boiler. I think they will have to replace the PCB again - see pic.suprema.JPG
  • I realise this is an old problem, but it's not gone away, has it Potterton!

Below is a web address, (as a new forum member I can't post links, so you'll have to copy it and remove the space between "www." and "partsarena.co.uk/...") for the Suprima 30 - 80 Installation Guide - Fault Finding Section. Its useful in that it can guide you to the likely area of a PCB that has failed.
    www. partsarena.co.uk/baxi/System/DATA/Dx/DS1/installation/2221/I04-2221/I04-2221.htm#z7faultfindingguide

It's available via the Potterton website, probably with better formatting, however that approach requires installing a parts manual viewer. Which sux. So I found the guide accidentally after doing an image search on google.

I've suffered the same dry joint PCB problem with our own boiler, a Potterton 60e and am now working on a friend's Suprima 30 PCB, for the second time in 2 years. Re soldering those joints which had failed did the trick two years ago, however more have failed since. Dry joints are relatively easy enough to repair, but can be a pig to spot without a magnifying glass.

Our 60e has been working fine since the plumber replacing the PCB with a new part. (I wasn't home at the time he serviced it, otherwise a simple examination would have likely saved me the £100+ parts bill.)

Will take you to the beginning of the same manual, where you will see the following note:

"See inside cover for models covered by these instructions For use with boiler code B (or higher) models only

    Installation & Service Instructions

    Suprima 30 - 80

Wall Mounted Fan Assisted Balanced Flue Gas Boilers"

    Hope it helps someone!
