I live 20 mins from the track, left at 9:20 got within 4 miles of the track by 9:45 & then it took another 2 & a half hours to move about a mile so we gave up.
Last years getting out of the car park was bad enough but this year getting to the track was unbelievable.
Not only that we were also treated to some old geezer passing us wrecking his jag by doing about 40mph scraping against the ARMCO whilst everyone else was just sitting there not moving. Must have been a write off after that & only a year or two old too!!!
Was also treated to someone in an EVO6 doing about 70 down the hard shoulder when traffic was at a standstill & everyone out of their car standing on the hard shoulder.0 -

Went yesterday, 4 of us... set off at 8am from Yorkshire..took approx i hour ..got off the M1 at J24a, there was lots of traffic, but nobody using the outside lane,
so we did, :rotfl:and must have cut at least 30mins queueing time off!
Had a fantastic day, only spent £3 on dinner, the racing was awesome, lots to do for the kids, tho there were very long queues for everything, including toilets, until we managed to find around 15 portaloos wiv hardly any queue.
But come hometime.... got in the car around 5pm...was still in the field having moved about 6ft at 7pm !!!!
Apparently the police hadn't turned up to direct the traffic, and the parking attendants were mainly kids who didn't seem to have a clue. Shame...it put a dampener on the day, but when we all started playing tunes on the car horns, it lightened the mood a bit,...well for a few mins at least! lol
Would definately go again and will camp out nxt time ..mebbes set off before all the rush ....then again, I expect everyones thinking the same?!?!:rolleyes:0 -
I have to say it was a fantastic day....We took 3 girls ages 3, 10 and 11 and my son 18..He I might add had a great day watching the Renault girls..So did my husband but he cant tell me that...lol.
Entertainment was great and free for the kids. Toilets were not very clean. We took a picnic and drinks. We started in the stand seated right by the start and then moved over to the grass verge where it was packed but with a lovely atmosphere..I took cameras and also video camera.Filmed all the races and got some crashes on tape , cant wait to watch it..Traffic was fine for us but thats probably because my husband woke us all up at 5.45 and we started out at 7. Got there at 8.10 and straight in. Waited around and had a walk about for an hour after the end and traffic had literally gone...Thanks to everyone at Renault..Chance of a lifetime for the kids and us....We are camping next year for definate..Great stuff.

We had a great weekend. We booked the Ramada Jarvis hotel at Long Eaton using tesco clubcard vouchers - it was fine.
We got caught in the traffic going as well. I tore down the outside, not realising and could n't bring myself to cut back in so we went to Shardlow and watched the narrow boats for a while. I then asked a local man how to get to Donnington and he gave us a back route and we sailed in no problem. We used it again on Sunday as well although we picked up the traffic at the village of Donnington. Leaving on Saturday we turned right instead of left and there was no traffic getting back to the hotel.
Great fun though. SO many people. Managed to get seats in the stand on the start/finish line for a while and saw the F1 car doing donuts. Racing was very exciting.
We did n't take that much advantage of the free stuff - fair etc as the queues were horrendous. We did plan to get there earlier on Sunday but slept instead!
Noise was unbelieveable - from the World Series cars as well. The ear plugs were not much help to my son, who is 8 so next time we go to a motor racing event I will get him proper headphone type earplugs.
Leaving the car park was a nightmare not helped by all the @@@@@ cutting in at the front of the queues making them even slower. It took us about 1 hr 45 mins to get to the M1 and then another 3 hours home.
Very enjoyable weekend though and thanks :T to whoever alerted us all to this offer.0 -
We went both days. Left my Dd's with my mum for the Sat night and sunday, as hse lives in nottingham so I could sit and watch the races on the sunday.
Kids had a fab day at the fun fair xos I could let them go on what they liked as it was free. Long queues though. DD1 had a bit of a mishap trying to race down one of the steep banks. LOL. Ripped her brand new trousers and cut her knee up pretty badly. St John's Ambulance was brill and looked after her really well.0 -

Lots of people arrived early and there were small q's maybe people should have realised that this or ANY racing event at Donington (especially when it's free) is not purely for them but that other's will attend also....... Just a thought.
I went out from the campsite (parkfarm house right by Donington) Sat and Sun morning at 7.30 and the roads were dead. Not the organisation of the event maybe the organisation of you.
It is a quality weekend if you can be bothered to get there early and not whine if you are late and blame anyone but yourself.Man who stands on toilet is high on pot. - Old chinese proverb.0 -

If everyone did that then it would just move the problem to 7.30 instead of 9-10 o clock. And some people had to travel for 2-4 hours to get there as well. I had a decent nights sleep, sat in some traffic for about an hour and a half and listened to some tunes and then saw all the events in the afternoon so I was happy.
I compared it to last year in my post where we left at the same time and didn't have to queue at all on either day and yet once in there this year it seemed no busier, in fact we could just walk through the tunnels to the middle of the track and I remember queuing for about 20 mins to get in the tunnel last year.
But yep you are right, it was my fault there were 2 accidents on the M1, the country's press were descending on EMA, they were directing all the traffic the same route to donington despite there being at least 3 ways, they gave away far too many tickets this year and that the car park attendants couldn't have mustered a brain cell between them. For all that, all I can do is apologise.0
