OMG totally irrelevant but had to get this off my chest....my children are being so annoying at the moment!! I hate end-of-term-itis but glad it always happens so I know they go back to being nice when they aren't so tired!! I always forget and wonder why they are being so awful then remember they always act up in the last week of term.

    Arrgghh!! :eek::mad::eek::mad:

Spag, I know from the school side of things that kids all become bonkers (particularly this week). Mad as a box of frogs !!!!!!!

I've just been super duper efficient and setup standing orders from my current account to my savings accounts for the "big spends" that happen in the year, contact lenses, dentist, car insurance, car tax, presents, etc :D I suddenly feel like a grown up.

Well I've taken a leaf out of Kerri's book and have opened pots connected to my bank and pots connected to my hubby's bank account, I had to stop at 6 pots each, the bank wouldn't let me do anymore  How very dare they when I'm trying to be organised ;). So we now have:-
    Property Tax (like council tax)
    House Insurance
    Vehicle Insurance
    Vehicle Maintenance
    Hubby's Tessa
    Contingency Fund
    Emergency Fund
    Trips to UK Fund :D
    Untouchable Savings
    My Tessa

I also wanted one for Septic and Water and one for Christmas 2013, but I'd exceeded the number of pots I could have, so back to the jam jars for those 2 :rotfl:

Look at you getting all technical and 'with it' :D:rotfl::D. (I tried to be 'with it' but lost my way and somehow ended up 'past it' instead :rotfl:)

I shall go back and have a peek as it was started just to cheer myself up, Miss Lily has just been sick again bless her, so looks like im in for a bad night, shes managed a whole rich tea biscuit for her tea and is now watching bubble guppies but I can see the eyes drooping just a little bit.

Lol the problem is that everything on my short list is not giftworthy in the eyes of DH, not even hair straightners  because having a hair cut isnt a luxury so neither is anything to keep it looking nice :rotfl:.

    My list comprised of:

A new electric knife as mine broke
Hair Straightners as only have a carp cheap pair from argos that make my hair greasy
    Some clothes
Some new saucepans (Ok I knew I wouldnt get away with this one!)
Some new small ceramic dishes as all mine are cracked now
A musical christmas scene to go with my collection
    A terramundi money box
    Some new knickers :rotfl:

According to DH all of the above are items for he house and thus are not acceptable for a husband to buy his wife for christmas!

My apologies if I've given anybody the impression that I'm technical or 'with it'. I'm a total technophobe and was never 'with it' at school or beyond.

I've always been 'past it', and have often wondered when was it my turn? If there was a boat happening to go past, you can guarantee that I missed it. :D

Hope Miss Lily sleeps off her sickness.

My eldest doesnt get so much end of term itis, more holidayitis as if theres a school holiday/family holiday/our school trip looming he will just go into naughty mode  We can always tell its time for the school to close because his merits go dooooooooooooooooown :o. He now gets for the entire last week of term, every single day before he leaves for school 'shut up, dont move and keep your opinions to yourself!' :o

  • I don't mind if my no changes, I can hardly remember what it is now anyway!

Jakes-mum I hate people like that - like the people who don't do Christmas cards, just give the money to charity, and send a hoity toity text out explaining what good people they are. I think they're probably the people that give the least to charity personally, they ride out most of the year on the good Christmas deed, and meanwhile, we have the monthly donations set up. Sorry, did that sound a little skeptical? :rotfl: I'm afraid I just know people like that...

I did get a nice big box of chocs today as a thank-you for my volunteer work, which was rather nice :)

Also finally had my development review today, and it's looking well for a pay rise, but they didn't mention anything about money today though. In my work, we have a few consultant companies working for the same client, and I discovered that people doing the same job for one of the other companies earn £3k more. I think I'm too polite to bring it up though - any ideas on how to broach it? I don't wish to switch company....

As a line manager of a small (development) team, here's how I would like one of my reports to approach this issue:

    • Make no mention of your knowledge of other people's salary for performing under the same job title as you - you have nothing to compare except salary and I assume no hard facts on how well they actually perform under that title or their duties, or how far they have 'progressed' within that job title.
    • Instead focus on what you bring the table, your duties and your successes.
    • Comparing salaries is never going to work, I have several direct reports with the same job title that earn differing amounts - I base salary on how they've progressed within their current remit. You'll get people with the same job title who have just been promoted, those who are progressing well and those about to be promoted to the next level. Again it's down to individuals.

I must admit I have a somewhat biased view as I've been at both ends of the stick with regards to line management and 'appreciation' for performance. It's a judgement call but over the last two years there's a reason I've earned more than my line manager ;)
    I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T

Spag, I know from the school side of things that kids all become bonkers (particularly this week). Mad as a box of frogs !!!!!!!

Glad it isn't just my lot then! Jakes-mum it's the same in my house, I have to get them dressed then tell them to stand by the front door whilst I gather myself together every morning! :o

  • I get paid for December early (tomorrow) and they email my payslip the day before so today I will be constantly checking my email today! Once I know what my pay is I will know waht I can pay off in this final month of the challenge. I doubt it will be much different from what I have paid off so far but i'll confirm soon :o

I'm aiming to finish paying off next year (hopefully by Easter) so I'll be in for 2013.

Thanks Jemma for managing this thread and Spag Bol for taking it on for 2013 its really appreciated. This thread has made so much difference to me in tackling my debt - I'm excited to nearly be at the end!! :T

Oh and just for the record I'm easy about my number so whatever is best is fine with me!

    MM
    February 2021 GC £301.45 / £300.00
    March 2021 GC £266.41 / £280.00
    April 2021 GC £53.19 / £300.00
  • Thanks insertwittyname but I should explain- this is a new start grad salary for first ever year of FTE - it wasn't related to our performance or number of years employed, as it wasn't applicable. It's the same job, same title, same experience, except I've now worked for 1yr, and new starts still earn more.

Morning, coming on to retract my NSD from yesterday. I went to gymnastics last night after a friend called and guilt tripped me into it, really glad I did as I was front flipping really well :D but that's a £4 spend. Also a little sheepish look from me as I give £10 to charity instead of sending xmas cards, I never send xmas cards anyway because I want to save the trees (I also hate printing anything!), but this year I gave to a charity my cousin-in-law is raising money for.
Climbing this evening, so a £9 spend day but it's budgeted for :)
