I've just sat down for half an hour putting through all the untracked claims on TCB! I've got about £30 owing to me if they all go through ok, cheeky blighters not tracking properly! Does anyone else have that problem?

It was the send off for my Grandad yesterday, it was lovely and sunny, the church was packed and there wasn't a dry eye in the house! He was a much loved and valued man and will be greatly missed. Yesterday brought some closure to me which I had been needing as I'm not very good at speaking my feelings, the OH and I joke that he's the woman and I'm the bloke when it comes to emotions.

Anyway, we've started investigating mortgages!!! I can't quite work out how I'm going to feel killing off one debt to get myself into another, but it has to be done I guess. We're trying to decide whether to get two individual mortgages and two houses, rent one out, or get a joint mortgage and a nicer house. I quite like the idea of investing in two.

On a debt busting front I'm on hold at the minute, last minute xmas pressie shopping, 1 person left to buy for and then a few small pressies to top up what I've already bought. Veg order from the farm paid for £25 which should last us 2 weeks even though my parents are coming to stay. We have spent £70 of our £150 terramundi pot budget on booze (we're throwing a cocktail party for our friends the Saturday before xmas so we don't have to buy presents for them). I've been buying the booze on the cheap :D so every bottle is half price and I'm going to hide half of it for after the party anyway. I'm very tempted to declare another £50 off my OD, as I have £800 left after payday, but I shall hold fire for a few more days I think.

Hope everyone is well and apologies for the long message today xx

For anyone reducing a NW OD bit by bit, be warned...I discovered today that every time you apply to REDUCE your OD limit they do a credit search as if you are applying for MORE credit!!

So so pleased now that our ODs will be payed off by the balance transfer this week. I would have !!!!!!ed up my credit rating by reducing £5k by £100 at a time :mad::eek::mad:

Just thought I'd share for anyone else considering doing the same that assumes (as I did) that reducing an OD would not be considered applying for credit.

OMG that's really naughty of them! HS8C don't do that, they just reduce it.
I'm starting 2013 in a positive stance, just created a new DFW diary all shiny and new for 2013. Now the majority of the bad stuff has happened to me this year I'm looking forward and hopeful :) I'm not going to set myself massively restrictive rules, I'm going to have some fun or I'll never learn how to be debt free.

  • I heard on the news today that some customers who had NR loans are entitled to the interest back because the bank made an error with paperwork. Fingers well and truly crossed here as we had two loans with them! I'll let you know what happens :D

Is NR N0rthern R0ck? as ive got a loan with them running along side my mortgage  do we know what period the loans were taken out that they made an error with?

EDIT: ok found it - Link to the story for anyone who wants a read http://news.sky.com/story/1023837/northern-rock-to-refund-270m-to-customers I had a loan of exactly £25K so not sure if i'll come under this as it says loans of below £25K. But all those that had unsecured loans back in 2008 keep an eye on your letterbox just incase ;)

  • Fair warning; there's a rant below:

What scam artists! My car problems were basically down to old spark plugs. I diagnosed this after a 5 min Google search, so why didn't they figure this out last time??

Anyway, needed new spark plugs and coil, quoted £140, but that seemed quite a lot, so i called another garage I've used before, who quoted £98. There is no accounting for that kind of price difference! I called back and said I was taking it elsewhere. Half an hour later, they call me and say that they had actually already ordered the parts, so would I mind if they did it, as long as they charged the same price? As otherwise they'll be out of pocket, and it was quite expensive for them... Well I said OK, because it would mean having my car back before tomorrow but i will not be going back there.

Just generally stressed out today, bus took an hour to get to work (work is 2.5 miles away), and i've now got to make up 4 hours because of the car debacle, plus an aggressive email came in today, and the extra car expense (in December).

My week will end in wine, and a revised debt total for the car.

Thanks for sharing this, I've stepped my overdraft down 4 times so far, but I'll fix the rest in one go now to protect the credit rating!

:( aww minicooper sorry to hear that. Whenever my car has problems I always get my mechanic friend to check the car over first, then I order the parts and get either him or a garage to fix it for me. I don't really know how garages work, but is there any way to get them to tell you what's wrong so you can source the parts yourself in future? I don't know where you live, but if in South Wales, I can give you the number of a good mechanic :) *hugs for you*

Ohh, I had an unsecured £10k loan (over 4 years) with them and paid it back March 2011... wonder if I'm in the running too :T

    [EDIT] Better coverage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20679511

    [EDIT2] Damn, not covered:
Please note - if you hold an unsecured personal loan with a 16 digit account number, we can confirm you are NOT affected by this issue. Our review has determined that the communications sent to you during the term of your loan did follow the exact format set out in the CCA.

    From http://www.nram.co.uk/en/customers/cca-loans.aspx

My loan had a 16 digit account number :(
    I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T
