  • My PPI claim was against Barcl4ys.

I sent the claim form on 30/08/2012. I received a reply saying they were looking into the claim on 14/09/2012 saying they would make a decision by 26th October (my birthday funnily enough). I then received a letter with cheque on 27th October. .

Right, am going to do the balance transfer to pay off the ODs.The 5% fee is high...but there is no way on earth I would not BT a CC at the same APR as our overdrafts, only paying the interest!! Also I do much prefer making smaller overpayments as and when on a daily basis, I have found the OD clearance very hard as it has to be done in larger chunks and then just cross fingers that I can stay within the limit as the paperwork goes through the post.

It also means we can then pay off and clear the other CCs with 0% deals running out throughout the year and will save on the BT fees on those :T

What with our holiday and this we are a grand up on last week:eek: and will probably start the year on £44k to pay off now. Still...we have cleared over £14k in 2012 which I am more than happy with :j

So...I hereby pledge that I want to pay off £30k next year. That will leave us (at the start of 2014) with £4k on a card that is 2.9% until end of feb 2014 and about £10k on two BCs that are 6.9% for the life of the balance. This will hopefully all go by June 2014 when we can remortgage and perhaps move house.

So 1% next year will be almost half of this year...only £300!!

Sorry for spilling my thoughts out here, it's the best way to think about this stuff! :D

Ooo, nice for Spagbol - sometimes you do need a proper holiday - it pays for itself sometimes, as you can live for several weeks on the fact you treated yourself not long ago.

I reduced one overdraft yesterday to £350, and this brings my new total to:

    #338 £2571/3486 = 73.75%

It's nice to have broken 70%, and I'm going to get to the bank after I get paid on the 21st to reduce the £350 overdraft to £0 (well, I'll leave a £50 buffer). That will leave just under £600 to pay off next year - and I'm so excited knowing I'll be debt free by March! just 80 sleeps to go!! *touch wood*

Oh p.s. the man in the bank was trying very hard to persuade me not to reduce my overdraft facility 'as they will not let me increase it again later'. I said I'll be back next month to speak to them about a new bank account for when I have a positive bank balance with them (though I probably won't!!)
  • Good for you SpagBol. We decided, when we started to clear our debts, that we would carry on having holidays. Yes, it means it will take us longer, but we decided it wasn't the kids faults that me and hubby got in debt, and both hubby and I have very stressful jobs, so our holidays are important to us.

Keycamp/Eurocamp are really good, especially for Whitsun and Easter -we are doing a week at Whit in the Loire Valley for £300 including the Eurotunnel, but if you have camping kit, it's definitely worth taking your own stuff over the Channel -we've been to the South of France, Provence, the Ardeche, all over and it's loads cheaper than you think. PM me and I'll send you a link to a really helpful foreign camping board. :)

Thanks everyone for the xmas ideas, I think we're going to have xmas twig.
Christmas eve we're going to go round a friends house for dinner so that's free :D
Christmas day we'll have jacket potatos with beans & cheese, then off to a friends in the evening for a party (completely forgot about jacket pots!)
Boxing Day my parents are coming so we'll have xmas nut roast (veggies here), followed by cheese & crackers, nibbles, and leftovers.
So I think I'll get a tin of chocs, some pringles & yummy crisps, and some nuts that should do us :)

It may be weird, but some of my best Christmas dinners were jacket potatoes my mum made! She's a vegetarian, so before we all used to rock up to my BFs parents, we used to split the visits. I used to go to my mums have jacket potatoes and omelette (world famous)

It was amazing! Don't tell my BFs mum! :p

On a debt busting note, I can't remember if I added my total for November, but I managed to pay another £190 off too. If I haven't, let me know :D
    :DDEBT FREE SINCE 25.07.14! :D

Minimum DD for one of cc's gone out today, so I have a new total:

    #304 £1,932.37/£5,210.12 (37.09%)

Went a bit mad in Mr S yesterday and spent £108  hubby and I both bought a new belt, DD1 saw some peppa pig PJ's and socks and she needed some vests, so £35 was spent on clothes, then we bought wrapping paper, some more baubles and an xmas pressie too, so I guess it doesn't seem too bad.

Oooh I've slightly gone backwards as OH's littlewoods statement came out and I forgot about some of his purchases :(
