Kerfuffle – You are sooooooo close to 50%!!! Have you managed to find out if your payment was the last one to Santander yet?

    Wow Jemma, what a post!!

    Thank you for including me.

I know, I'm so close to the 50% I can almost touch it :T. Re the last santander payment, I checked the paperwork and it looks like I got a little ahead of myself, the first payment was taken in the January so I'm assuming the last payment is December so now I'm waiting until the 5th, only 6 days to go :)
  • Aww thanks Jemma. Another three years for us, i reckon, but I think we'll clear 8 grand by the end of the year, which is 8 grand more than we've cleared every year for the last eight or so. ;)
Everyone is doing so well, I'm dead proud of you all! :T

Spagbol – how have you been getting on with reducing your overdrafts? Is it still a faff with all of them?! I would LOVE to see you reach 200% of your original target of £10000 this year. Even if you don’t, then the amount you have paid off is incredible. Fingers crossed for your PPI claim!

Thanks Jemma, it's quite exciting now we're all on the home straight isn't it? DH has landed an extra sale so we should be able to get to 33%, that's just short of £20k infuriatingly but like you say I am sooo pleased we have got this far! Now we could be DF in 2 years :T:T:T

OD wise my spanish bank OD has gone from £800 to £0 and my NW OD from £2500 to £500. DH still has £3500 and we have the joint account OD of £5000  The target there is get mine down to £300 and then pay off joint OD (down to £300 also) by the end of February. Then his over the next few months. (By the way...The interest on our ODs was costing us £2.5k a year  That's our foreign holiday covered every year when we are DF :T )I have given up my second job so losing about £500 a month but I have business ideas to start in January to cover that shortfall :)

We are so grateful to you and everyone on this challenge, you have given us our lives and our future back  This challenge is AMAZING and I will be back next year for sure. Are we starting on Xmas day? We will allow a bit more living this year though...I have just read the December Debt Destruction thread and although it looks really harsh...it's how we've spent the whole year. It is hard but sooooooooo worth it though :) Next year we will allow one trip out per month (Will still be as MSE as possible though :money:) and reinstate the kids swimming lessons.

Anyway...enough blathering from me...another DD has gone out:

Helen Pie – have you been having any more nightmares with NW??? Well done for paying off your loan!!!!!! How did you do in the baking competition? Sounds scrummy

Wow, that was one big update message, Jemma! :A

No more NW issues - they let me pay it off in the end :rotfl:

I won two of my three cake classes (and they told me they would have given me all of them but thought it "unfair" :p;)) *Smug*

Hi all, congratulations to everyone that's now debt free, I'm green with envy but know that we all have our own DFW paths to take. I've had a pretty rubbish time lately :( my Grandad passed away on Monday after a long battle with cancer and it was really painful to see him towards the end. I worked pretty much every day in October, sometimes pulling 22hrs in one day on the weekend. But this has now shown in my pay packet and we can have a lovely Christmas. We're at home this Christmas as my other halves mother was meant to be coming to stay. She's now only coming for an hour on Christmas Day which is a bit disappointing, but my parents are now going to come up Boxing Day, so we'll have our Christmas a day later. I now have to buy things like tree, wrapping paper, presents etc eep! All those things that make Christmas expensive. I've already spoken to a tree surgeon friend though who is going to get me some pine cones and some lovely twigs that I can shape into lovely handmade natural Christmas decs so that's quite MSE of me, and I'm going to make the table settings myself too.

The biggest news I have now though is that I've just paid off the DCA :D I'm so chuffed! I am slightly disappointed with myself for spending on the credit card lately though, but at least now I have one less creditor to pay each month and that means I have £90 a month extra to put towards other debt. Wooooohoooo!!!

So my current debt is now:
    £2460.42/3540

I'm hoping to kill off the OD too this month, but need to see what I need to buy first.

Jemma, I now go climbing on a Wednesday and Friday evening. I also had a really successful stall on the Christmas market in the centre of Cardiff for 3 days this week and came away with £200 in takings. It cost me £120 for the stall, so I came out on top :D

Well done to Muppets as well :T :T :T

Jemma - The big shot is currently sat on the shelf looking very pretty as I got a bit carried away with ebay auctions and ended up buying 720 crystal shamballa beads :rotfl: they should turn up in dribs and drabs over the next 6 weeks :o Will get on with some cutting after christmas though, at the minute with my health just not playing ball at all im pretty much stuck in my chair again :(

Hehehe, I snuck in there didnt I Canucksfan :D like a ninja, snuck up on that debt and grabbed it by the throat :rotfl: DH is making me laugh as he sits there and says things like 'now just because its all gone, doesnt mean we can go mad with the money' :rotfl: like it was me that ran it up in the first place :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ahh ty Psycho, I shall still be here next year as im now trying to decide on do I save for a new car as ours is getting a bit temperamental on whether it will stay in gear or not, BUT I also have a loan I took out on the mortgage years ago to redo the kitchen/buy the car, that they never combined when I renewed and im a bit tempted to attack that next year . . . all £18k of it  :rotfl:

Well done to everyone hanging in there with payments - we will get there!!!

Thanks for gigantic post Jemma :T

I am still off work for at least another 2 weeks. Strange and upsetting times but at least I have kept fairly MSE. Have decided that I need to spend slightly more though as I think stringent budget was part of problem. Have set higher budget for this month to allow for some xmas spending. The last 2 years we have had "credit crunch christmas" with only a small stocking for my children from me. I am going to spend slightly more on them this year although this will hopefully be offset because I am going to DS1 new house for the big day.

Originally I hope that today's payday would be debt-free date but I am at least 84% paid off - miles better than I have been for years and definitely better than if I had not joined this challenge. Jemma and everyone you have really helped me keep on track. :A

I'm sorry too Kerri, losing a grandparent, especially that way, it so difficult. I'm sending you massive hug xxx

VW Campervan Mum, don't worry, as you say, 84% is a HUGE amount to have paid off this year. I hope you start feeling better soon and definitely get that budget raised a bit to make you feel better. xxx

hmmmmmmmmmmm having a nightmare week with my car.... it broke down Sunday...Monday....Tuesday....Thursday...and... Today!

I had to have a new throttle pedal (actually it was 2nd hand -very mse) which the Vauxhall dealer was going to charge £311 and I got it all done for £75! However, on the way to the garage yesterday I broke down as my back passenger wheel locked and black billowing smoke was coming from the wheel... My dad had to come and help me and we limped the car into the garage. They fixed the throttle pedal and said to keep an eye on the brakes locking.... Guess what happened this morning...?????!!!! Yep, it locked again and I can't get my car off the bl00dy drive!!! I've tried jiggling the handbrake like my dad did yesterday, I've tried rocking it forwards then back but the smell is awful. I think it's friction from my tyres but not sure. Then I tried pouring hot water over the brake incase it was just frozen. Nope. So I'm stuck working from home for the 3rd day this week. Not amused. Plus.... It's fat friday and we always have KFC but my nearest is 12 miles away which is a bit of a hike...!!!!!!!! Doh! I'll have to walk up to the chippy later... My dad is on a half day today so hopefully he'll be able to get my car moving enough to get it to the garage. I was meant to be going to a big Christmas party in Liverpool tomorrow with 18 friends so I'm absolutely gutted as there is no way I will be able to go. Even if it gets fixed tomorrow then I'm reluctant to drive an hour from home without seeing how it is for a couple of days. Last thing I want is to break down on the motorway and be stranded...!

With regards to the house, I've decided not to go for it, at least not yet anyway. The mortgage advisor has given me a mortgage in principle for £138k so it allows me to look at houses up to £152k. I'm going to leave looking until I have a bit more money together and might be able to get a really lovely house in the middle of next year. I don't want to go anywhere near £150k especially cos of the stamp duty over £125k but at least I could put in cheeky offers. Not worrying about getting a house and fretting about getting every penny together for the fees and deposit has actually made me sleep better. I got very obsessed with it all. I need to get obsessed with having a deposit plus fees plus a surplus if possible to change things and redecorate. I'm still excited but at least I know I've more options now and it's up to me to make it happen.

    xxx
