Jemma, is it just being a passenger or the driver (or both) that bothers you?

    Good luck though xxx
    In debt no more!
  • Oh-oh, just spent some money on my cc (weekly shop of £71! and some toiletries for £29!), so had to make a payment to cc, but could only pay £58 :(

Ruthy - thinking of you *hugs*

Jemma - also thinking of you - I hope you're feeling ok.

Nothing much to update, except that I think I'm going to allow DH and I each a little *cheat* in November/December re: debt payments. By the end of October there's no reason why I shouldn't have cleared all of the interest-bearing debt (i.e. will be down to just my credit card, 0% until about June 2013). So...I've decided that we will have a month of just normal payments so that we can each have a little money to spend on Christmas (and DH can buy me something nice for my 30th in Jan ;) haha).

It sounds so silly writing it down, as we've spent about 5 years not buying into the commercial aspect of Christmas (mostly out of necessity :p) and having just a chance for quality time at home and with family, but it would just be really nice to give something back this year and as we've done so well up until now....

Don't get me wrong, we won't be going crazy: I've suggested to his family that we all do a secret santa together - everyone buys and receives one special present (£50-£70 budget, say) and one fun one (£10). So nobody has to spend loads but we all get into the spirit of it together and have some fun along the way.

I love Christmas - making nice food, having family over....love it! wish we did it more often ;)

Right, now feel free to tell me I'm crazy not making the overpayments!!

HelenPie - if you feel like you need a little break from debt busting, that's absolutely fine. You've obviously thought it through as well, you know exactly why you're doing it and it won't affect your payments from January onwards when you can get back on the debt busting beast!

I've just worked out how much money I've paid towards debts since the start of this challenge plus saved/spent on the wedding (effectively what would have been future debt, if you know what I mean) and it's over £33,000. By the end of the challenge it will be over £45,000. Absolutely amazing!! (and very worrying considering I only started the challenge with £16,600 of debt :o)

I find it frightening just how much money I've managed to put towards this. My income has significantly improved in recent months but nonetheless I must have been wasting so much beforehand (and spending more to get myself into debt....)

I'm very proud to say that I've (*nearly*) done this though.

Wow, cannot thank the guy enough that I spoke to on the phone at Mr T! Somehow something weird happened with my order - I ordered two bits of salmon expecting to pay £4, but received two sides of salmon costing £18! Luckily he quickly agreed to refund me £14!!

HelenPie, I know exactly what you mean. We could have such a lovely life if we were spending our money wisely and not paying interest, making minimum payments etc.

So....DH had an expenses payment today and I have made a payment to his CC:

    #084 £14,550 / £58,000 25.09%

    :j:j:j:j

Whilst this is terribly exciting and we have paid off 25% of the original debt, due to charges/interest etc. my spreadsheet tells me we still owe £47,678  Oh, and I rounded down to £58k in the first place so there was a couple of hundred extra before we even started!!

Never mind, just think how awful Christmas and next year would look without having done this challenge :eek::eek::eek:

Jemma and of course all of you on this thread: I will never be able to put into words or thank you enough for what you have helped us do for our family :A:A:T:T Thank you all so much for the story so far- and bring on the next year (or so!)

I caanot even begin to tell you how proud I am of you that you've reached this incredible milestone. The interest/fees shouldn't detract from your achievement! As your debts go down then so will these charges. I started at over £43k of unsecured debt a few years ago and I'm down to the last £5k. You WILL get there and we'll be with you all the way xxx

p.s. made the 417mile, 8hr round trip!!!! Well chuffed!!!
