  • Jemma – aww sorry to hear you are feeling down about your life *hugs*. It’s hard when you feel like everyone’s got what you want but you haven’t. You’re so lovely I just want to bring you a ‘Prince Charming’ and make everything alright. I’m sure the right person is just round the corner, waiting to pounce but in the meantime, do you have any hobbies that you could do where you might meet men? I know I don’t need to but hobbies I’ve done where I could have ‘hooked up’ if I wanted to are badminton (two of my friends met their husbands at badminton lol), dry slope skiing and yoga. Possibly worth a try as I know you are sporty!

Jake’s Mum – where do you win the vouchers? I think this is a good idea for Christmas and want in!! I’m def going to find a lucky penny now too ;).

Kerri – glad your visit to Grandad was OK – I know what you mean by Macmillan places.
Kerfuffle – thinks for fiscal fast link – I need to look at this one :)

Choclover – will they induce soon do you think? It drives you mad waiting for babies to arrive!

Nicolewild – glad you’re getting sorted with your finances. I’m retraining and am skint but get to spend lots of time with my children and that’s what’s important to me. Mind you they are teenage x1, and nearly teenage x1 now!

My news is that we have two leaking pipes and part of a fence coming down – expenses that I could really do without. They say it comes in three’s. Worse part of one of the leaks is that the carpet is drenched so I’m hoping we’ll be able to save it cos we can’t afford another one.

Kerri good news about your grandad coming home. Was the DNR his choice? How did the joint account chat go?? Well done on finishing the scarf. Where did you get the pattern? Wouldn't mind having a go myself

Morning, morning, morning! Just had an email from my manager to say that he's going to be sending me to Montreal....no dates, no duration, no useful information about whether I'll be out there when the OH comes back grrr. I've told him that I will not go if it coincides with OH coming back as that's not really fair.

I think they discussed the DNR with my Grandad, he is on quite a lot of pain meds as he has prostate cancer which has spread to his rib cage, so the fairest thing is the DNR.

The talk about the joint account was cut short by me, as I don't really want to discuss finances long distance. It's a bit different talking about how I'm almost debt-free, to discussing how we should manage our finances together. Although it was suggested that we put all bill money into the joint account, then don't touch it and OH suggested we pay in extra each month, so we are covered for emergencies. I haven't got round to discussing the joint savings account yet, I'm just going to take his half of the rent and pop it into a savings account/ISA.

The scarf came with it's own pattern :) if you fleabay for "cancan yarn" you'll find the stuff I'm talking about. It costs about £7 and you need size 8 or 10 needles. Cast on 8 stitches by popping the loops on the needle, then knit in garter stitch to create the rows back and forth :) Took me about 3 hrs in total I think.

Feeling your pain Choclover, DS was 10 days overdue and had to be induced (lazy so and so! 11 years later nothing has changed :rotfl:) all I can say for inducing was once he was on the move he came out fast!! 6 hrs and he was here (though Miss Lily was 3 1/2 hrs and hasnt stopped running since)

Good Luck with your career change Nichole, My friend is a nurse and once said to me its a vocation not a job, its hard work and long hours and you have to accept that in that kind of job you meet people from all walks of life, including those that may have commited crimes that go against your own ethics. Very fulfilling job though if its for you :)

Ok people we need to find Jemma a bloke! I'd give you mine . . . but I think you'd post him back within a week :rotfl:

That's what we currently do, we have a buffer of £1k in there for emergencies and then each pay in slightly over what we need to each month, although I've be putting some of the extra into a savings account for the car fund. All our bills except personal ones (mobiles, game subs etc) are paid for out of there.

We both have personal savings too so we should be fine if anything big were to happen but I'd like us both to build up six month worth of wages for if things like either of us lost our jobs we'd be ok for a while (took OH 2 years to get his current job).

Which reminds me I need to find out a good time to get a FA around and sort out life insurancey stuff for us.

  • Just had some good news from Santander. They caused massive problems for me with a loan I had with them. I moved house in May last year, but it took them until late November to actually change my address. Somehow this cancelled my direct debit. I called them to ask if I was in arrears and to make any missed payments. They said thatI wasn't, so I just started making the payments again manually. Two weeks later, they called me and demanded over £200 of arrears. As I had used the money I thought I was behind to pay off another debt, I didn't have the cash available to make the arrears up to date immediately, so I agreed a plan with them to pay the arrears back over 4 months. Due to the issue with the change of address, I had not been receiving statements or any confirmation of the arrears or replayment plan. This resulted in late payment and an "agreement to pay" notice placed on me credit record.

To cut a long story short, I complained (several times) to them, eventually to the CEO's office. They have just replied with an apology (but no explanation) and a cheque for £250! They are also removing all adverse notes from my credit record too! Very happy with that!

    Afternoon all,

Well being a bit of a hermit while on holiday! Good news on paperwork it should happen next week so going to aim for my largest two debts. Meaning I can release a £352 from my payments. I'm getting very giddy!

I'd like a cheque for £250 in the meantime!
