Last time I did an audit I had 30 kilos of spaghetti (not counting all the other pasta in the house). Now, even making myself big helpings, that's 300 servings. I live on my own. I've stopped buying spaghetti :)

toiletries.. HA.. unless you have been an Avon rep you have no idea the magnitude of the problem.. I 'stockpiled' 4.5 YEARS worth of bubble bath, 2 years of shampoo and I am still working my way through the hand cream!!... I stopped doing Avon 9 years ago...

I don't even know how I ended up with so much but I still occasionally find samples and bottles of face creams and lip balms I have had untouched for all that time!>>

Ebay it a lot of avon reps do apparently and at least its getting shot of it Or failing that make some small baskets of the samples up and give to the local schools when they have a fete or sale to raise funds

    Hi everyone

I decided after Xmas to eat from my stockpile of food as I live on my own now and my cupboards and freezer were full to bursting, and I did a very good job of it but when I was paid last ( only just over a week ago) I had a very weak moment and filled the cupboards up again, I was getting withdrawal symptons and now feel much better:rotfl:

On the toileteries front I dont have sooo many but like many of you if I see them on offer I buy in a good stock, so I have plenty of shower get, washingup liquid and powder, softener etc etc. Im a child of the fifties and wonder if my childhood had something to do with it as there was always a good stock of tins etc in 'just in case'

I do think it is to do with how we feel secure Some need a fancy car, or other expensive items no matter the debt to feel they have 'made it' which full fills them. Us on the other hand think more practically and feel sane at the thought of having enough to survive on in case the worst should ever happen.

But WHAT??? Are we waiting for the world to turn on its head??? A time in which we could not get to a shop for months on end???

Oh well at least we have found kindred spirits. :)

One of my new year's resolutions was to work my way through my stockpile of make-up and toiletries. I have a basket full of makeup and, in the bathroom, I have a drawer full of those little hotel bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion so have resolved not to buy anything until they are all used up.

So far this year, on the make-up front, I've finished 1 (out of 10) make-up bases and 1 (out of 7) blushers (a Clinque blusher that has lasted decades). This Monday, I poured all 6 of the hotel conditioners into a recycled soap dispenser and that should last me well into May. I should be out of "regular" shampoo by the end of May, so will do the same with the hotel stuff then. Ditto body lotion.

Body wash will have to wait a bit because I'm currently using a 500ml bottle of bubble bath I was given years ago as body wash (I rarely have baths). Started on that in January. An added bonus - poured it into a dispenser recycled from some L'Occitaine stuff my sister gave me and it has picked up the L'Occitaine Bergamot scent. It should last until at least August.

I'm getting there with the shampoo/toiletries and now am trying to only have one 'spare' of anything. I don’t want to stockpile – I live in a small house and don’t want it cluttered up with cupboards jammed full of stuff and it gets me down to see stuff that’s been hanging round for years – most extreme example was that I went to use up a bottle of swim shampoo (the stuff that is supposed to help get rid of chlorine) that I know I’ve had since I was at school – nearly 20 years ago:o! and when I squeezed the bottle it cracked as it was so brittle due to age!.

Food is a little more difficult as I am trying to use it up but I’m like to OP with loads of lentils and tins and frozen stuff that we just don’t seem to be getting through – I’d like to get to a stage where I have a reasonable stock cupboard so I can make a few meals without having to shop but not where there’s 14 tins of tuna and 2 years supply of lentils.

Problem is that I have no discipline so when I go to the shops I want to buy what looks nice – not on a restricted budget so there’s no need to stick to a list or use stuff up and I think if I want it I’ll have it.

I seem to have stock piled oven cleaner (4 different cans) and Stardrops (5 bottles).

Shame cleaning the oven is not much fun :o

I'm still working through the bubble bath lake and body butter swamp after 26 months of not buying replacements!

I had a reasonable stockpile, but had to use most of it during Jan/Feb when we were a bit short of cash. Now I have only 6 loo rolls - and I do mean 6, not 6 multipacks!  - NO pasta beyond the current open pack, NO tinned tomatoes, NO meat in the freezer....! Pass the smelling salts, quick! :rotfl::rotfl:

I think food prices are going to continue to rise, so will have to spend a bit of the spare cash I have now to rebuild my stockpile. I'm extending that to buying postage stamps before they go up, too.

I love the way we all think alike re having the security of a well-stocked pantry/freezer - I feel at home here! :D

You'll be thanking your lucky stars then! :rotfl::rotfl:

I don't have much of a stockpile of food or toiletries atm. Just don't have the space for it, and I ran out of body lotion and shower gel in autumn last year. So, when people asked what I wanted for my Birthday and Christmas, guess what was on my list? :D Oh, and my sister gave me her travel sized bits after she gave birth, cos she no longer needed them and I like to have nice bottles to decant my shower gel, shampoo etc into when I travel. :D
