i cleared out a few files of old bills, i'll keep my bank statements but i plan to scan the statements from my savings account as it's unlikely i will need to refer back to them and then i can shred another inch of paperwork.
I've taken the 9 items i sold on ebay to the post office and list another 40 dvd's and finally my silk skirt, i really hope the latter sells. It's the first thing i've listed with a buy it now option and a price higher than £1.99. it cost me £60 as is as good as the day i bought it.
Wish i could get myself to budget and list loads more stuff. I mean i've bought wool from ebay so others may yet buy it back from me :)

Well done everyone else you seem to be so much better at decluttering than i am.

Sounds like you could make extra money from renting the room out to BBC Cardiff for when they need an alternative Tardis setting.Sounds good!

  • We have a house full of "stuff", and most of it is OH's. He's always having things delivered ( eg software, electronic bits ) so I've said for every item that comes in the house I want two to be got rid of. Today he told me that he'd binned of some old maps of the village - not the sort of thing I had in mind! I know several people who would have loved to have them. I can't bear the thought of doing e-bay and all that packaging up and trekking to the post office. We're not keen on freecycle and strangers coming to the door, so it's slow progress here.

Well packing for my holiday (it's just over 2 weeks MissyG!) I'm sorting through my clothes trying things on etc etc. Anything unworn still with tags on that I'm not likely to wear has gone in an ebay pile! Can't believe how many things I have that are new and tagged and unworn! Still it will be a new hobby when I return from hols! It's got to be good saving money and stopping me buying more!!
Also go half a sack of stuff to go to the "nd hand shop so it's going well tho will be put on hold whlst I'm away.

Hi, I have the same problem as Newlyretired ieI am pretty good at clearing out my old stuff but DH is a bit of a hoarder. However in his defence he does not buy "stuff" like I do, all his clutter is donkeys years old, but still takes up space!
I have a charity shop round the corner, so have a permanent charity bag near the front door and take stuff every couple of weeks or so. Sometimes I have been known to go too far and try to persuade my DDs to ditch ALL their old stuff, but as they say, they want to have some mementoes of their childhood. I wish I still had a few of my toys, mine all went along the way amd it would be nice to have some (specially the clothes I made for my Sindy doll, they would make my DDs laugh!)
This week my aim is to clear out the garage, it has several redundant electrical bits lying around to take to the dump (can't freecycle as they don't work), also an old duvet which I want to convert into a dog bed.
There are also several bags of DH's old books which he probably won't want to dispose of. Wish me luck!

Thanks Sandy2 about the vinyl suggestion and my 2 beloved LP tracks! I do have a CD/cassette player but not for much longer because I have no cassettes, and as soon as the CDs are all gone, the player will be following them out of the house! I am going to give the 2 LPs to someone I know who still has a lot of vinyl, he won't notice 2 more and he can foster them for me - then if he ever gets a USB turntable or something I will be able to hear those songs again!

Lemon Tree, you're doing good! Let us know how your dvd selling goes. I put something on there last night using "buy it now with best offer" for the first time in ages instead of running an auction. It cost me a lot so I've put buy it now at a price high enough to recoup most of my money, but I'll probably accept a slightly lower offer if one comes along. I decided I'd rather start high and work downwards on this one!

Pigpen, 7 binbags from a room that had already been done recently - HOW!? :rotfl: Great effort :T

Furrypig, hope the packing and sorting goes well! I reckon I own fewer clothes than most people would take on a 2 week holiday :rotfl: Makes packing easy though!

Fozz good luck this week, must be tough for people like you and Newlyretired, if you want to make progress but your OH's aren't quite on the same page :p I've kept one small soft toy from my childhood, and a postcard my sister sent me from a holiday when she was also a child so they don't take up much space. Other than that it's just the photos...

    Which reminds me...........

Right I've started the "Great Photo Sort Out of 2008" - got 7 of those plastic crate thingys and labelled them up with post it notes so I can sort the pictures/negatives roughly into smaller groups as a first step. Then I can take each crate at a time and decide what happens to it!

I have been sorting for an hour and done one of seven shelves. Not chucking out anything much at the moment, that'll come next but there is definitely scope for a major cull here.

    It's a really horrendous job :(
