Enough is enough - the great declutter

Hi Tracey
I assume you mean there's no room in the garage to put stuff. Oh dear, poor you.
Maybe start with the garage then. Is the clutter in the garage saleable or is it just junk for the tip? Are the items small enough to go in a car?
I've never tried it myself but do you have a Freecycle, cos I understand that it can be a good way to dispose of larger items - such as furniture etc.
I understand the council will only take things like fridges or freezers for free. (Our local council took my dead freezer which was in my garage, however, they said they would charge £35 for furniture etc.)
Good luck & happy decluttering.0 -
Hi Tracey,
Just start small. Don;t just tidy, actially get rid of stuff. Fill a couple of bin bags you can either give to charity or chuck out, then you will have 2 bin bags of space LOL. You dont have to do it all at once, you dont even have to do a room at a time. As long as you actually get rid of some stuff then you are creating space, even just a little bit. even if you want to freecycle/ebay you can do a few bits at a time. Good luck

anyway, I've done a bit more upstairs. Have cleared another bookcase and a pile of stuff from the floor LOL.
Have out a few items on freecycle but they havent shifted yet.
Also been through several old folders of paprework ready to shred.
What can one do with the stuff the shredder spits out ? I know we can't recycle it.
Have a load of stuff to Ebay, just cant face it yet ..... also got a cupboard to empty and need to find a new home for my box of fabrics. Once that is done then maybe I will have a better idea of what to do nest, I feel like I am shuffling things around but its such slow progress the rooms I am clearing never seem to look any more empty!Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

I know we can't recycle it.If you know anyone with an allotment, try asking them, you can use them when planting potaoes, but you might find they have already planted. Also, do you know anyone with a hamster or rabbit, I think you can use shredded paper for bedding, but check first, I don't want to kill off any pets :eek:You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

Just a heads up that it's a half-fee listing day on Thursday on ebay. Time to list your clutter and save some money :money::j Guess what I'll be doing for the next 2+ days :rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

Hi everyone.
Just off to the tip with another car load - this lot is real rubbish - nothing to sell.
Gave my neighbour a load of stationery type stuff for the special needs dept where she works - they were really chuffed.
This afternoon will tidy the garage and sort another load. Aiming to do another car boot sale on Sunday (if the weather holds).
Loft is now about half full - so getting there.
Am really starting to see the difference now - the house is looking good and it's a lot easier to keep tidy and stay on top of things.
Keep up the good work.0 -
Just been through my DVDs, CDs and books. I think I am almost at the "I have no more personal clutter" stage
:j All the things I've kept I either love or want. Now if I can just work on the kitchen stuff (my domain, OH hardly cooks but he's trying
) and the stuff that is stored under the stairs then I'll be happy.
Just about to pull out all of my personal stuff from the "to list" ebay pile and sort the rest into OH's or DD's (we don't let DD go through the pile herself otherwise she would keep all the stuff she hasn't touched in a year and the stuff she has put aside for getting rid off  ). I'm hoping with this "half-price listing day" to finally break the £100 profit pointCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Well I have raged a war against the clutter in this house - it's now divided into 4 piles - Mine, OH's, DD's and household stuff.
Now if I can just get it out of the house I'll be happy as I'll be able to move
Photos of what I've got to shift on ebay!
Already listed :

Our local authority will accept shredded paper in the recycled- stuff wheelie bin they've given us. There's a list stuck inside the lid of what they'll accept and I put a load in ours last week.
Take care with shredded printed paper for pet-bedding. Newspaper is OK but I heard that coloured pages from supplements and mags (and even coloured pics from newspapers maybe) is poisonous to pets because of the inks and dyes use.
