I'm joining in late; large 4 bedroom house, 3 people - you'd think we had plenty of room right?
I have loads of stuff I want clearing. My problem is we dont' actually have decent storage anywhere. DH is a big believer in minimilism and so refuses to have built in storage because it 'clutters up the rooms' (strange that he has 3 boxes full of painting gear, a whole room full of tools, 5 shelves of magazines, 4 boxes of DVDs etc)

I'm trying to work out the most effective way of storing and sorting things so any tips appreciated!
First job is sorting out storage for our guest bed/study. I'm stacking magazines under a window seat so that clears shelf space. But I really need a neat and cheap way of storing canvas, paint, material, sewing machine, weights, model making kit, etc (none of this is mine!).
I'm also trying to sort ou paperwork, at the moment I have 6 big ringbinders for bills etc but I think i need a new system. I'd love filing cabinets, maybe if I bought 4 old ones and sprayed them white I could use the deep drawers for painting kit as well?

    Hello there

Im joining very late too:o ..but when i first saw the thread i was so busy decluttering :p

We are moving to Germany for 3 years at the end of the month...removals coming on the 29th:eek: ...but i have been using this as a good incentive to have a clear out....

i have freecycled like a woman possesed:D but think the neighbours may be wondering what im doing as there has been a steady stream of folks coming and going:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: and still have some more stuff to list...have finally convinced myself that if im not using it , it may as well go....but its not easy:confused: ..still im feeling better...especially knowing that i will have less to unpack at the other end:T :T

I have allready discovered enough toiletries to last me and hubby over a year...
enough samples to pack in my suitcase for my 2 weeks in kefalonia...which falls nicely between the removals going and us travelling to Germany..2 weeks of doing nothing:beer:
oh and 55 cookery books:o :o:o ...now i have always known that i have an obsession with cook books and anything for my kitchen:rolleyes: ....but 55:eek: and i havent finished yet..ooops and thats not counting my cookery magazines:o ....i have promised myself not to buy any more..honest....
Strangely enough non of my cook books have made it onto freecycle:D

well i had better get on and do some more:A

I managed to clear alot of the stuff I pictured last time on ebay, but I've still got boxes left and I've managed to fill another 3 :eek: Soooo I'm going to move them from our bedroom (where they've been stored since they were last listed & unsold) into the livingroom so I can sort through and relist them again. I wouldn't do it but we need the money :o

Haven't been on here for a while and wondered how everyone was getting on.

I've had a very unsucessful car boot sale - the rain was tipping down and it was freezing. So very demoralised I sent a lot of stuff to the Salvation army and some things made their way back in to the kitchen oops!

Have had both of my kids birthday's so the place is full of even more toys than before.

I'm definatetly not winning this one!

I've found a brilliant way to get focused. I asked DS and GF round for dinner on Sunday, and you couldn't get into the dining room, or see the table. DH spent all day sorting it and I now have a lovely clean and tidy diningroom :T :T :T.

I just need to invite someone to sleep over and then I will be forced to sort a bedroom :D

I was just having a rant about how every week I chick out loads of stuff eg full paper recycling sac today and yet my house is still full of carp. How are people getting on and am I just doomed to be forever untidy?

Great thread - shame I haven't seen it before!
I paid for this year's holiday with my e-bay and carboot money, and have just started again for next year. I just wish I knew where it all comes from: there seems to be 'STUFF' everywhere.
Very impressed by Nicki's neatly stacked boxes of e-bay items: think it might be worth investing in a set of fold-out storage boxes now that 'free' boxes have become extinct at the supermarket.
Personal challenge: clutter-free house for Christmas!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
