Enough is enough - the great declutter

Mary, I'd never be offended by someone re-offering one of my things on Freecycle if it no longer meets their needs. What I was offended by once was someone offering something 'nearly new' they'd collected from me the previous week and saying "if no takers, it goes to the dump."
I emailed her and told her if no takers, I would take it back and ensure it didn't get dumped! (Fitness equipment - EASY to rehome). Grrrr.0 -
Thanks for the advice..........think thats what I'll do.
Just put my waste basket on there and some artificial wooden type flowers along with very old Every Womans Enclyclopedia (edwardian I think) thats a bit battered and lost its cover -still very readable, plus childs book -story bout Bob the Rabbit.
Think I'll pop slow cooker on as well and all these things can go in the cubby hole where the elec. meter is while I wait.......drives me mad just looking at them............lol
Meant to clear top of my desk today and haven't.............still, I'm pleased dads walking sticks fit my sons wicker basket........he'll be pleased to know its being used for his gramps stuff. (Must finish touching up paint on trough and varnish it..............lol
Any ideas on what to do which this charcoal drawing my son wrapped my birthday pressie in ? Its a lovely drawing but a bit on the large side.
Ohhh,..........also found a long picture of poppies that OH was going to put up in the kitchen and never got round to it........about three foot long it is.,...........lol but that can go in the 'building site' room once it becomes a 'room' again. Till then its going in the cubby hole as well.
I reckon I''ve done pretty well..........for me:TMary

I have piles of OU MBA related books which I know will sell as I have previously sold other educational stuff. Will I risk my award by selling it on eBay? Plenty of people have sold OU study material on there, and my course cost me over £8500, so getting a little cash back would be nice.
I'm not sure what you mean by "risk" your award....but I would sift throguh & pick out a few that relate to how you will apply your MBA to your job, and sell the rest to recover part of your investment!
BTW, congratulations!0 -
Well, actually I have a lot of them on pdf as well, so losing the paper versions will simply cut out the clutter.
I was concerned in case I was obliged not to sell them on - obviously OU has the copyright. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

There used to be an OU 'newspaper' called Sesame and it had students advertising course units for sale.0 -
Oh yes congratulations Angela! Sorry didn't say that before
It's always great to hear some good news :T
No worries with copyright, you can resell the original item (just not unlicenced copies of it). Whether there's any other reason you might not be permitted to resell, I don't know - it might be worth a call to check and put your mind at rest first? (Don't think I'd bother though, I'd just list them)
I've heard it's best to move quickly with reference/textbooks etc, as they soon go out of date.
2 small boxes of very old tiles I found in the back of the shed have gone today! Yes I started by getting rid of binbags & boxfuls, then it was carrier bags, then shoebox size, and now it's just the odd item here and there :rotfl:
I've decided I have too many "old towels and sheets" for decorating - think I can safely halve those and stick half on Freecycle.0 -

That's exactly why I am keen to get them on - me thinks this might be a job for the weekend!
It always amazed me the people who put their assignments on ebay!!!Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Made a little start on the corner near the china cabinet......found four New Musical Express Papers dated 1981............why on earth have we got them ? OH reckons my eldest son gave them to us when he was having a clear out, OH was going to read through them and never did............so they're on don'tdumpthat site at the minute............do hope someone wants all this stuff ..................ahhhh.............the little box !!
Old box of dominoes, pack of Happy Family cards, Askim card game, solitaire game (must keep that),little box of chalk five stones (must keep them as well)..........the rest can go onto freecycle.
Now what can I use the box for? It came from my dad so I want to keep it but it needs re-vamping or something............ummm.........have to muse on that one.
Oh and found some money I'd bagged up and took to the bank but I'd bagged it up wrong and mixed up 5p' and 10ps............might count that out tonight so I feel rich. Daren't add it to the big whisky bottle we've got - that weighs a ton now and is heavy when it comes to emptying it out.
Not doing too bad today for a day that started with me doing -well, not a lot.................lol:TMary

I love this thread, its really inspired me to get off my backside and have a good clearout recently. I'm doing it all in short little bursts so i dont get too tired or sore but its making a big difference and i feel loads lighter in my mind
My main reason for decluttering is that our new house most likely wont be ready for when jellybean arrives so we'll have to stay on here for a bit. Its a small, 2 bedroom 'cottage' terrace and with 4 of us plus all the baby paraphenalia (sp?) and OH working from home some days its going to be a squeeze. And i like the idea of having less to tidy up and clean lol
Today i've sorted out all the paperwork, shredded loads of stuff and put piles of magazines, newspapers, catalogues etc out for recycling. Now we have 4 neat files all in a row on the bottom shelfI'm going to get a nice magazine box file thing to store magazines that are currently being read or that OH can't bear to part with.
I've also done the huge chest in our room which holds bedding and towels, got it down to 2 sets of bedding for each bed and thrown all the screbby towels away, we'll be getting new for the new house anyway so we'll just make do with what we've got for the time being.
Hope everyone has had a good day

Ex foster lad came and trimmed the climber up the front of the house and now he's taken the music papers, the wicker waste bin and the artificial flowers.............he's happy.........I'm happy............yippee..........I have some space !!!!!!!
Just need to sort out the picture my son wrapped my pressie in and decide what to do with dads little box..............can't believe I can see the floor up that corner now....................:T
And hessian bag that I didn't know what to do with can sit under computer desk and hold my history magazines....................:T
I actually feel I'm winning:T (excuse me getting so excited but if you knew what a clutterer/hoarder I am plus being messy into the bargain you'd understand......................):jMary
