    Mortgage-free Glee!
I think some of the forum have had their lightbulb moment here.

We have all been gradually decluttering for different reasons - some because they are sick of the mess, some because they want/need to raise a bit of a cash, some (like me) to sell their houses.

I am fairly tidy, OH is a tidy-freak! Me moving into his house (albeit just for Mon-Fri) meant that gradually I was aware I was contaminating his bachelor-home!

So, when we decided to put OH's house on the market and move back to my house, it was definitely essential for a declutter!

I took a week off work and slaved like a trojan to get it on the market by the end of the week, filling boxes, freecycling, ebaying, binning, plus cleaning, repainting and replanting to spruce the little place up. It looks a treat now.

Sad thing though is that I am now bored living in such a tidy place and can't wait to move so I can sort out my place now!!!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

My stepmum and her mother love clutter. Living at home before I got married was difficult, no-one could come over as there was never anywhere to sit and all the rooms were just rammed with stuff.:(

After I got married, I opened my wedding present from my step granny and it was full of random cluttery bits. I sat looking at it all, wondering where to put it (4 small carriage clocks that weren't workable, some china saucers with no cups and a selection of chipped figurines) when my new husband swept it all off the table into a binbag.

'We'll be having none of that crap here' were his exact words!:rotfl:

Ever since then, I haven't kept anything unless it really pleases my eye or is really useful.
    Katie.

Pigpen :rotfl: we may need to send you to an ebay counsellor.

I have nothing on ebay now (gasp!) but one NPB to sort out

Car service is tomorrow, so cross fingers nothing expensive arises from that... as long as there's nothing out of the ordinary then the ebaying will cover the cost.

One bit of camping gear freecycled and hopefully being collected tomorrow.

Good luck with the viewing Angela and sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned!

My grandparents gave me some of their own stuff when I got married but at least I liked it or it was useful - not just loads of useless and/or broken tat - what was your step-granny thinking

Only time my house gets a huge blitz is when people come to stay - and then only people that I might want to impress, everyone else I assume wants to see us, not the state of our house! However, ds is getting good at binning my clutter for me, sadly not his own though! It's nice when I don't have to go through it, only rule is don't throw out photos or anything that looks precious - sentimental precious, not money. Rest all goes in recycle, charity or bin bags! Wish I had the tidy gene sometimes!

Good luck missg with the car.

Mine passed its MOT with flying colours in early March, then the next day, a lump of a white van man crashed into it while it was parked in a car park and it has been sitting in the bodyshop ever since (aargh!)

I could post my ds to you! If I address him to

    Mics chick
    Round the bend
    Up the wall
    & over the hill

Let me know when he arrives safely - I'll even throw in a supply of bin bags!

Seriously though, I think for some of us the lightbulb mo may never come, we are doomed to a life of clutter, or swimming against our natural instincts! I do just bin stuff sometimes when I really have had enough, I know as soon as I start to look through it and put it in freecycle, recycle, charity piles it'll never leave the house. Not very green! Thank heavens ds is here!

My lightbulb moment was when my OH came to live with me.

I knew the house was cluttered but when OH suggested a skip I laughed because I thought no way would we fill one. BUT WE DID.

About 6 months later we filled another one, followed by another one 7 months later. ALL FROM A 3 BED SEMI (1 adult and 5 kids) which i'd only lived in for 4 years

Fair enough.... that did include getting rid of our old kitchen units and various carpets and large bits of furniture but TBH most of it was c**p. :o

I'm ashamed to admit there was more stuff that escaped the skip and either went to ebay, relatives, freecycle or charity.

The best about it was our house didn't even look that untidy. But every drawer cupboard the roofspace etc was just bunged with STUFF.
How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Mine flickers occasionally where I'd just love to grab all the carp and throw it in bags and out the back door.

But then I know I'd miss him! :rotfl:
