Ha ha, if only it worked like that pigpen! I have to look at hundreds of posts every day, far too tempting/time-consuming to declutter my own stuff :D
Thanks Missy, yeah there have been some bizarre things happen!
I ventured up into my loft and have found 5 things to Ebay this week, also 5 books I'm going to put on Amazon I think - anyone done this? And now I am going to get off the PC and clear out a big bag of shoes...:A

Well, OH and I have completed the house declutter and makeover, and I have to say, we are mighty proud! I will post up photos tonight, but in a nutshell, we have:

Kitchen - decluttered - filled five boxes, emptied large fridge freezer, put small undercounter fridge picked up from eBay in the gap, cleaned oven, repainted walls, ceiling and paintwork and cleaned it to within an inch of its life! Cleaned windows

Dining Room - decluttered - filled one box of china from sideboard. Cleaned french windows

Lounge - decluttered again, removed the mat, cleaned and vacuumed. Cleaned windows.

Family Bathroom - Fitted new flooring, cleaned it well, repainted skirting, decluttered (1 box). Cleaned windows

Spare room - Mega declutter (about 6 boxes, plus 4 vacuum sealed zip bags), vacuumed, moved room round, repainted walls, dusted and cleaned windows. Put up new pictures.

Master - Big declutter (about 4 boxes, plus 3 vacuum sealed bags), vacuumed, cleaned windows.

Ensuite - Mega clean including windows.

Hallway - repainted hall and skirting on stairs, vacuumed, cleaned all doors.

Garden - FiL worked wonders and really got it under control again as it had been left over winter. Looks great now! Green Recycling full up now.

Cleared garage of all boxes listed above, plus bikes, etc to my house.

I think it will be mega eBaying time in May, as there are stacks to get rid of.

Estate agent came on Friday and said that the house was immaculate and would photograph really well, which is positive.

    We are completely exhausted though!

hi this place is much clearer now, only the bedroom left to hit along with the sheds. I really love the tidier place now i just need to keep it like this, once i've been brave enough to face tackling the bedroom that is.

My goodness Angela!!! What an amazing "done" list! Fantastic! Can't wait to see pics, if you're not too shattered to do them!

I am waiting on some ebay auctions to end. Very surprised at how well one of my items seems to be doing... considering I looked up previous completed auctions on similar items

Ebay seem to have credited me with an hour on items I listed before the clocks went forward too - haha.

You're right - too shattered, sorry! Promise promise I will do them tomorrow when I get home from work (thank goodness for the clocks going forward).

Start new work contract tomorrow - wish me luck!

  • Good luck!

I need to get the nerve to hit eBay. I only have a couple of books and two prams to sell, but the prams should fetch a decent enough price...

Freecycling not going too well, only one thing collected. Going to re-list the items not collected on Monday.

One item being collected tomorrow, as long as the lady coming for it doesn't go into labour *grin*

hiya all declutterers- i forgot to tell you what the main motivation was behind our decluttering. we decided to get rid of our gas guzzling car and then got a parental loan to enable us to get a car that is already much cheaper but should also last us a number of years. anyway, we want to pay off this loan asap - hence the major declutter of five minute wonders and the like.

angela - mega well done on the decluttering to sell the house - just make sure all the boxes don't just clutter your other house, opened or unopened.

i know from experience carting around boxes of stuff between house moves ( hubbies job meant we relocated a few times) most of the time this stuff was never opened / used between moves:eek: . worse when we had to move it ourselves without the paid movers - we really regretted all the hoarding then. we have got rid of loads - especially when we had our lightbulb moment and no longer buy all the five minute wonders! however, we still have loads to get rid of - some of which is stuff people have given us to sell at car boots etc:eek: :rotfl:

I've never sold on Amazon Bails but let me know how you get on if you do it. I have a few lovely books I've kept because others like them weren't selling on ebay, but I'd sell them if I could get a couple of quid for them.

Current sold & selling total from this batch of ebay stuff is £119. I have some more ending tomorrow and the rest on Sunday. Half a dozen posted out this morning so the pile is reducing slowly. I'll probably hold onto the unsold stuff and have another go next promo listing day.

Chest of drawers people haven't been  but they are keeping me posted so I hope they intend to, eventually. It's been getting in my way in the kitchen all weekend.

Chardonnay, I agree, stopping stuff coming in is equally as important in my opinion! I've never been much of a shopper anyway but I hardly buy anything now. I'd rather spend my money on experiences, activities etc.

A (non computer savvy) family member has asked me to ebay all their 'junk' for 50/50 of the profit. Obvious pros and cons to agreeing to that - what do you guys think?

I sell stuff for my sisters.. If you decide to do it.. make sure you have postage costs and ebay AND paypal fees covered before you give them their 'cut'

Re Amazon selling.. they charge the buyers £3 for postage.. and of that.. you get 50p.. so make sure your listing price covers selling fees and the fact you won't get enough postage money to pay for postage!!!!

I won't sell on Amazon becuse the postage paid by the seller is way more than you get.. then they charge selling fees which are really high too. you lose money hand over fist on there!

I have also been burned by that one in the past when my parents moved with me to my house. It took 3 removal lorries and cost a small fortune. Oh and I are taking boxes over gradually and unpacking as we go, identifying ebay or freecycle candidates and putting these aside.

We will use a removals company for the big stuff, but the potential clutter is being dealt with like this. I am hoping to raise enough to pay for a short break for parents, OH and I out of the ebay proceeds!
