    ooh lets hear the list.

Soooo.... I got one of those big triangle hay racks, 2 water troughs, a sofa, 7 chicken feeders (not sure I need 7!), some horsey travel boots and a rabbit run (I don't have a rabbit, don't intend to get a rabbit but it was cheap - yep I know that doesn't make sense!!). All cost about £140 which I was v happy with!

It was such a fun day too. There were people bidding by ;)'ing which was funny! I just shouted and waved my card about for each bid! Not very  but wanted to make sure they knew I was bidding :rotfl:
We wanted a caravan too but it went over our limit - I mean it doesn't need to be a nice one to sit in a field and get covered with muddy boots and smell horse stuff!

Hi LJ - hope you don't mind me stopping by. As a previous horse owner I love catching up with yours and others horsey antics i.e Floppy etc. I am hoping it might give me some inspiration to re-kindle my courage and get back in the saddle. I had a really bad experience with a horse share. The owners were lovely, and were upfront about their (night)mare. THBX, geased lightning mad thing. However I thought that because I was not a novice things would be fine. It was not....it was like riding a stilletto wearing maniac. Used to bolt at EVERYTHING and NOTHING. It was the final straw when she took off with me at speed and left me in a pile alone on the common. Two years later, I have not ridden since; that said I have begun to think about it, but really want a "happy hacker".

Anyway wanted to wish you luck with your land purchase....it's a no brainer. Sound like you had fun at the farm auction; you can't have too much horsey stuff!

Its lovely for you to stop by! I can imagine that was really scarey - I'm not sure if I would be able to get back on after something like that. However if you do manage to find a happy hacker then there is nothing more lovely. My last one was a shire and ok, not the most glam of all horses but she was like a sofa to sit on and totally sensible!! I do wonder if different horses respond to different riders too - maybe the horse was only used to novice riders and didn't like it when you told it what to do!!
My one is totally rude, has no manners at all with his owner (who is really experienced) but because I don't ask much on him, he is better with me - weird!!
Auctions are so much fun - can't wait for the next one!!

Yep!! Agree with both comments :) I really do think horses respond to different riders, my last horse was an angel for a chap who taught him to jump and was always a good boy jumping for me - I think because Lee taught him so well. But other than that horse was total idiot and is entirely responsible for my huge lack of confidence with baby now.

And auctions...oh my ... i just cracked up at the rabbit run. Maybe you could ebay it and make a profit? I've spent good money trying to get rid of the rabbits here in the field!! And the sofa for a fiver sounds a huge bargin. I hesitate to ask but do you have anywhere for the sofa to go??? Or is it to go in the yet to be purchased caravan? Whatever, I'm loved reading your adventures.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Hi LJ - If only I'd worked for the hindsight department. I also think the older you get the more risk averse you become. Maybe the mare could tell...!!! I really need to find that nice school master or armchair horse. I think you could make a profit on the hutch; very MS :j

I will never be allowed to go to a house auction after last weekend! I think I will ebay the run, its in quite good nick!
Well the sofa thing is actually a bit of an issue....so it goes like this....

We were planning on getting a caravan (probably just a shell to store our rubbish / house the sofa and a camping stove). Sounds like a plan right? No.... got the solicitors report through today (well exciting :j) but we aren't allowed a caravan on the land!!!

So I now have a pointless rabbit run and sofa *sigh* !!

Lol highsight department - love it! Wish I was there too I would've started my OP'ing years ago!!
I think I might go into the business of finding confidence giving cobs / shires for people. I reckon I would make a fortune!!

Totally exciting you have the solicitors report. :j Now, that caravan..without knowing the details there may be ways round it in the future. That clause may be there to stop you putting a van on you can live in and then later claiming some kind of rights to live in the caravan. I remember keeping a horse at a livery yard that had this kind of clause which owner only found out after the caravan was on site and a neighbour complained. She was actually allowed to keep the caravan when a planning office agreed she couldnt possibly ever spend the night in it!!

So maybe all is not yet lost. Does the land have stables? And a barn and a feed room? Maybe the sofa could go in one of those with camping stove etc??? And if not, if the land is used for grazing horses you might just get permission in the future.

Although I am struggling to see how spending hundreds on stables, feed room, tack room just to house a £5 sofa is moneysaving I do hate to see a good idea defeated:rotfl:

My understanding is that anyone can keep a caravan on any land for one month at a time.
  • I have read the whole diary............WOW.

So impressed with the whole overpaying, owning land for your horse having an amazing job and a three bed house plus your great attitude to everything. In the whole diary I think you used 2 sad faces!

you are living proof if you want something badly enough you can do it.

Well done doesn't even cover it!

So overall what are you going to do re paying off the last bit?

    Thanks for the inspiration XX
    Nevertheless she persisted.
