Managed to get hold of him last thing yesterday. As suspected he got me mixed up with the selller. He did tell me that it was me he spoke to and he was sure of it!! I managed to convince him that it must have been the other party! I think he was having a bad day :)

Have just spent what must be ages reading your diary. Wow wow wow! How motivational you are. Seriously impressed.

have some experience of putting in an arena for riding after god knows how many tussels with local planning - but - we are not in a national park so not sure if I can be of much help. But, my one tip, that made it so much easier for me, was to use a planning consultant. I'd previously thought they were a waste of money but I used a specific equine/agricultural chappie and he was worth every penny I paid him. When I finally read his submission I concluded that basically the local planning department would be responsible for every equine disaster that ever happened if they did not agree the arena! He wrote a magnificient piece, with supporting letter from the BHS and covered environmental impact and all sorts. He was so worth the money.

Anyways wish you lots of joy and will be following progress
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Hi Watty1, thanks for reading and your nice comments :)
That is a brilliant tip on the planning bod. I didn't even know such people existed! I will investigate that

On the money front, nothing to OP as I need to save those payments in case the land goes ahead. I have been very very lucky and my mum is lending me a chunk of cash for the land so I wont need to pay interest. It does mean the mortgage OP's will stall whilst I pay her off (I know its not the best way of doing it but I would rather pay her off asap)
I think I can pay the land off by Jan as its about the same amount that I have outstanding on my mortgage. However I then need to decide if I'm happy to leave that £30 odd thousand or decide to extend my journey (I'm thinking of leaving it since I will still have the value of the land and could sell that if need be????)

  • Hello Laurajo! How's it all going? That really is amazing service from Watty's planning chap, sounds like I could get one in the communal garden!

Sorry I can't help with your money plannage, I'm a bit lost if I'm honest! Did you say you were taking a loan for the field?

I reckon Watty could make some serious money out of that!
I'm a bit lost too if I'm honest!!
I think I am going to borrow £25k off my mum, not OP anything for now so have the remaining amount. I will then pay my mum back rather than paying the mortgage. Basically it will mean that I will always then have £35k left on my mortgage which is essentially the cost of the land. The question is, should I OP that or just leave it knowing that I have an asset I can sell should I need to? I'm tempted to leave it and 'technically' be MF still by Jan? Don't think I have the energy to OP the extra £35k (I will still make repayments but leave it hanging on). I dunno??!!!

Ahh, I see, well presumably you will need some spare cash each month to tinker with the yard and look into getting a menage? So you may not be able to OP at the current rate? I think for me it would depend on what else you would do with the money that would be used to OP the rest of the mortgage. surely it comes down to interest rates and which is higher, whether it's saving or OPing your left over money each month. Perhaps just OP at a slower rate and enjoy your new purchase? I don't think I could relax knowing there was a mortgage to be paid off!

Not sure if any of that makes sense?!

I think you're right - may be just make small OP's. Might be very small at this rate since a mass cull has just been annouced at work
Don't know if I'll be impacted yet but there's a 50/50 chance. I'm just so thankful that we've been able to OP so much. We wouldn't have been able to survive if I lost my job with our old repayments. Just done the numbers now and as long we keep a lodger we should be ok..

  • Oh crumbs, really sorry to hear that LauraJo! Thank goodness you've been diligent and sensible, I guess this is exactly why we do it!

I was made redundant last year three weeks before Xmas, so I know the feeling! I applied for a 0% credit card the day before so I had a safety net and protected my savings. I also got a lodger in which helped massively although she did my patience no favours! :o

A year later and I'm almost where I started but have a much better job to boot! And maybe one day I'll get my notice pay but I'm not holding my breath...
