We are having Matilda (blue dress and cardigan, red ribbon in hair) and Oliver (scraggedy rags made with an old grey jumper and some cords plus begging bowl)0

I have done Rapunzel with a long princess dress that has one of those pointy middle age princess hats with it. I've made a very long plait with yellow wool to pin to the inside of the hatSorting my life out one day at a time0

Many thanks for all the suggestions, he was really up for being a cowboy, so we went with that. He's gone into school wearing real cowboy boys, so I'm awaiting a call to say he's sprained his ankle, I've told him to change into his proper shoes at playtime, but he seems to be surgically attached to the boots now.
Hope everyone's little 'uns who have dressed up have a great day.
Thanks again.0 -
well mine have gone off to school in fancy dress as well
MD (7) Has gone as a Dalmation complete with a pair of Dads socks made into ears and face painted
ES (9) Was given many suggestions but he poo-pooed the lot and has gone as Fletcher Moon from the Half moon investigations.Which basically involves a t-shirt,jeans and trackie top and a Private Detective shield made out of cardboard. Not exactly stand outish but hey its what he wanted and he's happy
The schoolyard was full of Princesses and Pirates hehehe

My DS2 refused to dress up today for pre-school because he wanted to wear the same as his big brother, who wasn't having a dress-up day! So that was nice and easy!
I've taken note of all the ideas here though for next time...my DS1's school usually has a dress up as a book character during the school book week in the autumn - last year it coincided quite nicely with Halloween, so I suggested that he dress up as Wizard Winterbottom from Mr Christmas, and bought a v cheap witches hat from Asda.
Unfortunately he is now saying he wants to dress up as a Dalek next time - really not sure how we are going to manage that one!0 -

My 10yo son went to his book day this year as a lost boy from Peter Pan. We cut some very old jeans that were too short into rags at the bottom & did the same with an old tee shirt. We 'dirtied' it all up using brown eye shadow - my daughter just wiped some all over his clothes & face. I also tried a tea bag on the tee shirt to make it look more ragged & dirty. HTH0

Sorry, duplicate threads are discouraged, as they can lead to confusion
I'll add this to last year's thread and then delete the duplicate post.

Many years ago, I went to a fancydress day at school as a prisoner...
My mum sewed dark blue fabric (in V shapes I think) to a pair of my dad's old pale blue PJs. She made me a ball and chain with an old sink chain and a balloon painted black. I also had an old sack with SWAG written on it...0
