Fantastic ideas.....thanks everyone.
He wanted to go as Lightning McQueen because he has a Cars book, but he's got no chance with my crafting skills. We have got a few bits that can be cobbled together into a cowboy outfit, but the only cowboy I know is Woody out of Toystory, again another spinoff from a film!!!!
I'm still pondering....I'll update later.0 -
when my boy was in nursery, i made him a pig mask using a paper plate, a bit of an eggbox and pink paint. Then I got a piece of cardboard box, painted it brick red and marked bricks on it - hung it round his neck - the third little pig. Last year, (yr 2) made a circular cushion type thing out of orange felt, stuffed it with rags and made backpack type handles on the back. Sewed a plastic spider on, knitted a worm and made a glow worm out of covered pingpong balls. James and the Giant Peach! As that's his name he was very impressed!! I too, am (probably unfairly and unduly!) irritated by the number of superman costumes etc that turn up each year!0

Cowboy is great - you have all the classic ZANE GREY books ( just google). Or the stories based on Buffalo Bill.0

oh forgot to add, Horrid Henry is a pretty easy one - blue top, strip of yellow paper sewn/sellotaped/glued on, scraggy hair!0

Technically, Spiderman started as a character in a comic or 'graphic novel', not as a film character.;)0

I think the main thing is your son goes as something he feels happy in. There is no point going to loads of trouble trying to shy away from all the "film theme characters" if he would feel more comfortable with that.
It's all about fun at the end of the day and he won't be out of place no matter he what he wears.
DD insisted on wearing her ballet costume...Angelina Ballerina!!!
I hope he has a great day X0 -
Mine refuses to dress up (I just want to be me to quote) or he would be going in his halloween skeleton costume. They have been doing 'in a dark, dark house in a dark, dark street' so it would be perfect timing too. I would try and stick to a book that means something to your son if you can.
Anti ubercostume here. We won the easter hat parade last year on the basis that ours was the only one that looked like it was made by a child..... (erm, says a lot for my crafting skills too!)'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Ah yes - the Easter Bonnet.
There are some amazing ones on Ebay:o.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

I know that one well. DD won 2nd prize in the "make a wooden spoon into your favourite book character scarecrow" competition.
I am the most unartistic person ever. DD was 4 at the time and came up with all the ideas and I just had to help her put it into practise. When we got to the bus stop all the other children had these wooden spoons with these wonderful creations and I was cringing thinking of what we had hidden in DDs bookbag. A Rainbow Fairy with hair made from a scouring pad sponge which kept falling off :rotfl:0 -
Last year my son went as Jack from Jack and Jill nursery rhyme. I put a bandage round his head with brown paper stuck out the top then he carried a small bucket and a bottle of vinegar (just stuck vinegar label to the front of a plastic honey squeezy bottle). he looked great.

Another boy in his class wore a Bob the Builder top and a builders hard hat and had a homemade banner on his back saying London Bridge Construction Crew.0
