Tomorrow is National Book Day and my 4yr old boy has to go to school dressed as a character from a book or nursery rhyme. With such little time to come up with anything amazing, does anyone have any quick and easy ideas?

what about something simple. Think white t shirt and trousers and draw black spots on them with a marker pen for a quick dalmation?
maybe make him a quickie blonde wig (i know he's a boy but it'll be comical) from yellow wool and send him as goldilocks?

The first time my DD had one of these book character dress up days I was paranoid her costume wouldn't be very original but when we turned up at school most of the children had just gone in a normal dress up costumes like the incredibles or power rangers.
Something very simple for a boy would be normal school uniform and just adding a pair of pretend glasses for Harry Potter.

Black long sleeved top with black leggings/tights
Then stuff some old black tights to make extra 'legs', attach to the top and he could go as a spider from 'Charlottes Web'
Awwww, bet he'd look super cute as a spiddy spidey! :TComps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

Last year my ds wanted to go as captain underpants so I bought some y fronts sewed them onto the outside of a pair of tracky bottoms (so he didnt get cold) then with a plain white t shirt and a red cape we wrote captain underpants on the t shirt. He thought it was ace and very original as no one else had thought of going as captain underpants.
You could dress him up in a stripey t shirt and go as wheres wally?0 -
Pyjamas, slippers and a dressing gown, and he could be "wee willie winkie". Most dressing up clothes can be adapted to be a character from a book too - eg pirate costume can be Captain Hook from Peter Pan, Bow and Arrow with green top and trousers makes Robin Hood, etc. Have a look at what you've got around which is a bit different to normal school clothes, and then see if you can use any of it to make a character.0

Biblical shepherd: tea-towel on head, dressing gown, toy lamb under arm.
Sir Galahad from Arthurian tales: large white pillow case, make a small slit at the sealed end for his head to go through, small slit on each side for his arms. Make 2 large red crosses from anything you have (material, crepe paper) for the front and back. Chunky belt and plastic sword.
Pyjamas and dressing gown and teddy for one of the Darling children from Peter Pan.0 -
Last year my son went as Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Easy peasy -ordinary clothes plus a big golden ticket which he made himself out of gold wrapping paper.
Little Boy Blue -wear blue clothes and carry a toy horn/trumpet.
You'll find most kids just dress up as film characters regardless of them having been in a book first. Just because there are spin-off books about Captain Jack Sparrow or Dr Who does not mean they qualify for world book day...rant rant
My kids haven't been asked to dress up this year :j :j :j :j
However dd has to be a viking on Tuesday:rolleyes: luckily her cousin is being a Saxon on Friday -much the same thing0 -

Yeah, just stick him in a dressing gown and he could go as Arthur Dent from Hitchhikers guide to galaxy.
Or put a sheet over him, bingo he is ghost from every ghost story ever written!:D
