    Hi

Lonely - I can only say - well done for keeping your cool, the woman sounds horrid. Now, I think that charge cards can accept DMP, although Brassicks is right that no one has to...
American Express is a charge card - I definitely read someone managed to get the charges and interest stopped on this. it might take a bit longer than with the other debts but keep on going - you'll get there in the end!

Thanks Sea, this seems to confirm what Payplan told me too. They said they will try and say anything to get you to pay more. When I gave them the RMA ref number they said it looks like any other ref number from them - and in all the time she had worked at Payplan she had never heard of a debt from RMA being rejected on the basis that it was from a Charge Card. She also said it was not in their interests to decline the DMP and take you to court, because if a court can see that you are paying as much as you can, they will only rule in your favour. I just have to keep remembering this when I am talking to these idiots.

  • Hi All
Just thought I would pop in.
Thanks for the info about national debt line daysieblue they have
brill letters great advice so I will get organised next week and get all
the letters in the post and then wait for the hassle.

Gemmzie at the moment my mate has sorted all my bills and worked out
a great budget with money left for the creditors they won't like it but
there is nothing I can do about it. I have reduced my gas/electric and
    phone.

I feel a bit worried about doing the dmp myself but hopefully things can't
    get any worse.

So thanks for your kind welcome and hope everyone has a good day today.
    The weather is great today.
    Best wishes

IDAAS I'm really sorry I didn't reply to your post. :grouphug: I have to admit that I'm a skim reader and often miss things. Hope you are feeling better today.

    Smilealot, welcome back.

    Lonely
, sorry I don't know the answer to any of your questions.

Well done to all of you who have had creditors agree in the past few days.
  • Just worked up the courage to ring Barclaycard. Having gone through the automated stuff I eventually got a man on the phone telling me there systems are down and to ring back later. I have just them and GE to sort.

Am I wrong in feeling this way? I just want to get these other 2 to agree then try to forget about it all. I want them all in the DMP and then I want to forget they exist. I want to see CCCS as my creditor and I want to make them the payment each month and feel that everything is ok. I'm maybe being naive but I think I'll feel much better tackling it like that.

I've just logged on to CCCS and I went onto my online banking and set up a SO. I now want to turn off the paper statements. I want my debt sitting in cyberspace. It's really weird not having a ringing mobile. Long may it continue.

I was also playing with the debt free sooner tool on CCCS. Have you all used it? You can type in amounts to increase your monthly payment by and it shows you how much quicker you would be Debt Free if you paid more.

I'm still considering the bank charge reclaim. I know it's dodgy but I'm still thinking about it. If I got them repaid I could then look at upping my CCCS payment and getting out of this mess sooner.

Sorry for all the inane waffle.

    Hi Ex

What's stopping you reclaiming the charges? Is it the thought of another long battle that's off putting? Or is your bank account with one of your creditors on the DMP (that's what is stopping me)? No worries about the rant - we've all had one of the days. And I know exactly how you feel about wanting to make it go away (or hide it in cyberspace!)....

    Hi EVERYONE,
IDAAS - I'm so sorry you were down and felt like we didn't care, I can assure you we do!! Hope you are feeling better now and just to say I agree with lonely - don't let anyone make you feel bad about yourself they are not worth your time.

EX - I feel exactly the same and after my being on a role last week i just want it all sorted now!! Like you I have stopped my paper statements from CCCS because i don't relish the thought of a monthly reminder of how much my total debt is. I would also like CCCS to be my only payment showing for debt each month and be assured that it was all being taken care of and so be able to relax about the whole thing.
Smilealot - lovely to hear from you so glad youre ok!!

Hope everyone has a good day, nothing in my post this morning and no phonecalls so that can only be a good thing.

Lonely, we have 2 joint current acccounts with Hellifax. One account has an OD of £1500 which virtually every month gets used. The other has a £1000 OD which gets used most months too. They are joint accounts. My OH has no idea that they are overdrawn. Hellifax Visa are in my DMP.

My worries are that if I claim the charges:

    1. They'll close the bank accounts:eek:
    2. They'll pull out of the DMP:eek:
    3. Start hassling me
    4. They'll tell us to take our mortgage elsewhere.

I have calculated my charges on online banking from the beginning of 2005 (there were probably some charges before that but I'm happy to just pursue from 2005 as that's where things got bad) and they amount basically to the same as what the ODs are. If I were successful the ODs would be cleared in fact I'd ask them to remove a good part of the facility and maybe just leave about £300 facility on each and I swear I would never ever have a bank charge again. Well I don't have many DDs left due to the DMP and CCCS will get their money on 1st of each month so that's easy. :rotfl:

Teecee, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I find myself looking at people now and trying to estimate their levels of debt. I'm all consumed by it and it's never off my mind. My OH has a friend with severe debt problems and I feel like anonymously posting him a CCCS leaflet.

    EX- It's all consuming isn't it!!:D

Because no-one knows about my debts, I can't discuss how it's going. I find this really frustrating because I want to tell everyone about MSE and all the fantastic support I've had.:T
I too find myself looking at people and wondering how many of the people i know are like me, and hiding a debt secret. Until I found this site I had no idea that i wasn't alone and that so many people are dealing with the same problems.
I want to shout it out loud that it not shameful it's just a situation that can happen to anyone and the most important step is to face it and then try to sort it out!
However I suppose I will just have to do that on here instead because i'm not brave enough to come clean to my nearest and dearest!!

    hi

I reckon that with what people earn and yet the things they affor d- many must have secret debt. I have been talking quite openly about my debt, but OH has gone mad this weekend about ti and says I have to stop. I've said I won't talk/tell our mutual friends or his friends, but he wants me to not tell mine either as he doesn't want people looking at him and thinking he's poor. !!!!!!. You can imagine what I told him - and also rather big headed to think that my friends would even be thinking of him!!

Ex- good idea to clear the ods - why keep any O/D facility though? I'm on a complete anti debt day today :)

You are right, I know you are. It's just really as a safety net in case I write a cheque and forget about it or for an emergency (given that I'll not be using credit cards any more). I know you are right though that I should let the whole lot go. I have come a long way in the past month so the plan now is:

    1. Get the other 2 creditors on board the DMP
    2. Reclaim bank charges  - Have just looked it's just 2 simple letters
    3. Look into a missold endowment claim
    4. Approach the Hellifax about a better deal on the mortgage
    5. If bank charge claim is successful do away with most if not all of the OD
    facility
    6. If ODs are cleared double the payment to CCCS.
    7. It should be getting warmer soon so the money I'm spending on gas
£60- £70 per week  start putting into a separate account towards debt/rainy day.
    8. House insurance is due for renewal 1 May - premium will halve as will monthly payments. Try to save the £16 a month somewhere.

    9. Wake up and smell the coffee, I'm such a dreamer :rotfl: If I write it all down here though I'll feel that I have to do something about it.
