Thanks guys. Have just entered my details into CCCS and will read through their initial pack before checking all my figures and hopefully signing up with them. They do suggest a DMP and on my initial figure they say I could be free from debt in 5 years 6 months, depending if they can freeze interest or not.

5 years isn't as bad as I thought and will speak to OH but might be able to get that time lower depending on what we sort out for me to pay towards the house etc.

The only thing is, when I fill it in for a DMP for just me, it only allows me £170 for food whereas we have stepkids every weekend and OH to feed too. I usually pay all the food and council tax and he pays rent (works out about even that way).

Do you think I should be listing half of everything? Sorry, bit confused:confused:

Hi, I started my DMP with CCCS last October. The letters and calls do stop after a month or two. I must admit it is a great relief to know everthing is now running smoothly. The ccccs have been great, you can even access your account with them online.
  • Hi all
Thank you soooo much for all your hugs and good wishes - cyber hugs really do make a person feel good!! And I'm soo happy still to be in the loop!!

Everyone has been so busy I feel ashamed, today all I've done is cut the lawn (at least thats free!!) - thank goodness for sunny days and the birds singing. Weather like this sure puts things in perspective!!
Newlywed good luck with cccs I've found them to be great and really helpful plus I filled in the details online and it was all dealt with like that no telephone interview or anything, I just got all the paperwork through the post and that was it! I would mention the stepkids and oh though. My debt is all mine and oh doesn't know about it so I halved all our outgoings (utilitlies, council tax etc) and they adjusted the food etc. Hope you get sorted soon it really is worth it.

On a general note, I know a couple of people have had difficult phonecalls there was a thread on here a while ago about starting any phone calls by saying that for monitoring purposes (or something like that?) all calls are recorded (either buy a dictaphone or bluff it) and then the callers are generally less difficult - perhaps its worth a try. Keeps the creditors on their toes !!
This is turning into any epic - I'll close with big hugs to you all - It feels so good it feels to share the burden and give and receive support! Love to you all.

Thanks. Have worked out if I put down half the rent then that more than covers the food shortfall and should allow for if OH has a quiet month (he is self employed). And they allow £10 a month more petrol than I use too, so I should have a little to build up for any emergencies (or car repairs since I drive a rusty old heap that will soon have to go to the scrapheap pile :o)

There is a possibility of a bonus next month (maybe, depends on how well the business has done). I am planning to use that to buy a new(er) car (mine is 18 after all). Will CCCS allow this or should I join the DMP after that?

Who can I open a basic account with and what is it called? Can I open one with Alliance and Leicester at all?

Sorry for all the questions, buy thank you to everyone. This thread has really helped me see that a DMP may mean problems for a few months but means that I could actually pay my debt off and be rid of it within 5-6 years!

Newlywed, you will need to add up all your expenditure, then half it, just for the purposes of the spreadsheet

    Hi Everyone,

I have been away over the weekend staying with friends.(so just petrol money)!! We are thinking of selling the house moving somewhere cheaper and having no mortgage. This would not pay off our debt but without a mortgage it would speed it up. I am pooing myself as I am expecting all my creditors to turn down the cccs offer(no reason other than nothing goes to plan these days)!!

Chin up newly wed and please phone cccs, it seems most of the people who work there have been in our situation and they treat you so nicely.

I hope you all have a good rest of the day.
    Nxx

Even though some of it is solely in OH's name and some in mine??

  • newlywed - if the bonus is a one off payment I think buying a (necessary) newer car would be acceptable - I've read on here before that cccs don't recommend paying off odd lump sums because the banks then expect that as regular payment (unless you are able to pay off a whole balance). I may be wrong but I'm sure thats what I read.
Lonely - so sorry to hear of your predicament I know its awful when you have problems at work and also how lonely it is when nobody knows about your debt (my oh doesn't know of mine either! mse'ers are the only ones that know!!). I think clarifying the work situation with the boss in a friendly, casual way may work. You know something like; "not a big deal but when you email a job to multiple people who then delegates and who does the work", as far as the "blackmail" cause thats what it is, she stands to gain nothing with this ammunition try and call her bluff and if she blabs deny any knowledge she'll end up looking completely silly!

  • newlywed forgot to say I opened a basic "step" account with natwest online no problem, no od or chq book but you get a debit card - don't know about alliance and leicester, but Coop do a basic one I think and others are mentioned if you do a search for basic bank accounts you'll probably get more info. Also is your dmp joint? If it is then all your (joint and individual) debts are put in one pot with CCCS if you're doing it alone then as far as I know you can only add your debts.

    Good afternoon

Not been on in a while so thought I'd say hi.

HSBC have now offered me a managed loan at 13% to pay back my overdraft that they cancelled(!!) as they have now accepted my DMP payments. Will be paying £550 in interst over five years. Has anyone any experience of this so called managed loan?

I'm gonna call CCCS if I can get back home in time tonight.
Proud to be dealing with my debts
