    Hi Ex-Spen

How long ago did you first set up the DMP?

OK - I'm going to try and be a bit positive now and share all the little tricks I have learnt over these last few weeks:
    1. If you don't want your OH credit score to be affected by your situation - and you only share a mortgage (can't have a joint account, cards, etc.) - you can apply for a disassociation. Look on Experian website, fill out the online disassociation form, and say you have separated - with just mortgage as only financial connection, this shouldn't be a problem.
    2. BEFORE you do the DMP, ring up all your creditors and get them to delete all the numbers they have for you apart from mobile (say others are out-of-date). Then leave mobile on silent all the time. Your real friends will leave messages but they won't. After starting DMP this is probably harder but still possible.
    3. Open a new bank account BEFORE you start the DMP - Abbey are very good and you can get a Visa Electron card with their normal current account.
    4. Write to all your creditors telling them briefly about situation and giving payplan (or other ref.) number. Then when they call you can just say all the details are on that letter.
    5. NEVER confirm that you're a home owner - just say would prefer not to answer - or lie!!
    6. Cut up cards and cheque books and return them - before you get asked. That way you won't have any nasty little surprises turning up at your door.
    7. Sound as confident and articulate as you can on the phone. This intimidates them.

Just thought it would brighten up my day would give others some tips - any that you have, please let me know.

    Hi everyone

I have just phoned Studio. Yes I know I probably sound like a nutter to you all and that we should be avoiding creditors instead of contacting them. :rotfl: Anyway the guy on the phone (who was actually quite nice) said my offer had been accepted. :j :j So the situation now is 6 down 3 to go.

    Accepted

    Cahoot :j
    Egg :j
    Argos :j
    Next :j
    Studio :j
    GE Money :j

    Awaiting

    Barclaycard
    Hellifax
GE B&Q (hopeful they will accept as the other GE has)

My plan now is that if I don't hear from Barclaycard tomorrow, I'll give them a call. I suppose if nothing else they'll all think I'm committed and not hiding.

Sorry for keeping on posting the same ramble. I suppose I just want to show anyone who is having major worries that they haven't heard anything from their creditors that their DMPs may have been accepted but no-one has bothered contacting them.

    Hi Lonely

Welcome back. Some really good advice there, thanks. I suppose I should take the same steps as you for my DH's sake. He doesn't deserve any grief.

I sent my DMP documents on 12 February, got the confirmation on 25 February and made my first payment on 28 February. So I suppose in the grand scheme of things it hasn't taken that long to get where I'm at. Saying that it seems like months but in real terms it has been quite quick.

The one pearl of wisdom that is helping me at the minute is something I read on one of the threads a few weeks ago "it's only money, it's not important". Some guy had said this to another guy who was having health problems because of his debt. I then read a mine's bigger than your comment in relation to the size of debts. I'm trying to take that approach and not let it grind me down. If I can get Hellifax, Barclays and the other GE onboard it should all get easier ie just pay the monthly payment and hopefully focus on it a lot less.

You have got me thinking should I be brave and ring my creditors to see if they have accepted or just sit tight?
Think I'm gonna be brave and ring them:eek: you are an inspiration and it's understandable for you to be jumping for joy, you're nearly there!!!!!!!!:money:

It seems like ages ago that i had my lightbulb moment, when in reality it's less than 10 weeks! aren't we doing well:T

Thanks Teecee. I'm hopeful about Barclaycard as they were the first people to respond when I sent the template letters out. They immediately said they would freeze interest and charges until 28 Feb until they heard from CCCS. I'll definitely ring them tomorrow.

Yeah go for it and give yours a ring. It ends the waiting. I'm very impatient and have to see targets met and all that (sad I know). I'm not brave enough to ring Hellifax though. I'm not ringing GE either as you get locked in phone menus forever.

    Thanks EX

Barclaycard were the first to write to me too, not a nasty letter just saying they would freeze account until 20 th march as i was now seeking help from CCCS, just getting a bit worried because i haven't heard anything else.
This could be because they have accepted and so will leave it at that, but i'm just like you very impatient and i like to know whats going on. Especially when its my life for the next ten years that depends on their decision!!!

Gonna take the bull by the horns tomorrow and ring all my creditors, wish me luck.............I might need it!!

Go for it Teecee. :T It's a heck of a good feeling ticking them off the list. Just remember to dial 141 in front of their number to make sure they aren't getting any contact numbers for you.

    Good luck.
