Just wanted to say good luck for thursday, hope it goes well

I have heard of many people being called in for these interviews due to malicious phone calls from people who think they know other peoples business, when in reality they only know half a story.

I know this causes a great deal of stress when you have done nothing wrong, and dont know the full details of the accusations.

On the brighter side once you have proved you have done nothing wrong, should they receive another call with the same allegations its normally ignored
  • Another good luck for Thursday!

It's a shame that the DWP etc don't demand a valid name, address etc (maybe by postal confirmation?) so they can identify those making malicious reports and then take action against them. Even if they can't recover the costs they incur in following up a malicious call, then 100 hours community service working with the disabled might educate the caller on what it is like to live with a disability.

After all I have read on the internet I thought they would have some surveilance or something but, they have told the solicitor that they have no evidence now wether this is true or not we do not know, but, as he does not do anything that he should not we dont know what they could have as evidence anyway.

I'm surprised it's an interview under caution if they have no evidence - usually when someone makes a claim about someone committing benefit fraud, they carry out surveillance. This can be in the workplace, supermarket, outside your home...on holiday, or anywhere where he goes.

They usually spend a few months videoing evidence etc and then call for IUC once they hav evidence backing up. If your son hasn't been doing anything different to what he put on the form then he has nothing at all to worry about because they would not have been able to get evidence, which very much could be the case.

I would have imagined if they could not get evidence, then it would be a normal compliance interview and not under caution. You can never tell with the DWP though.

Either way hope it goes alright for your son.
How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.
  • Good luck for the 12th.

Does somebody drive your son to work? People who have syncope are not allowed to drive as far as I am aware. Has he informed the DVLA?

  • I think it depends on the cause of the syncope. I have POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) which causes syncope but I would still be allowed to drive. (I have been advised against driving (a manual car) but for an entirely different reason.)
  • He was only diagnosed with the syncope within the last 2weeks and it is brought on by laughing so we are still at the stage of waiting to see what the dvla have decided regarding his case as to whether he can continue to drive or not.

When i was interviewed under caution the only evidence they had was my bank accounts with money going into them, i was truthful to the best of my ability and then the interview ended it was about a month or so when I heard that no further action would be taken.

If i were your son i'd take all supporting evidence letters, diagnosis from the doctor as they have said they have no proof but be prepared if they have.

Thank you, we have just returned from the solicitors so it is just waiting till thursday now.

  • 'Syncope' is just a fancy medical term for fainting. If you pass out when you have an injection then that is 'syncope' but hardly a reason for stopping you from driving. The syncope referred to in the DVLA is random and unpredictable syncope usually caused by cardiac abnormalites.
