iPhone peddling again....?
Do you really think it's a good idea for them to go out and purchase one of the most expensive phones on the market, when tht OP has specifically mentioned that they're really not that into tech?
I agree the iPhone is the most expensive but it's also the most user friendly to use.
All Android phones seem to be a bit odd to use to me , probably as each maker puts their own skin on it to make it stand out, and then anyone cn design an App any what they want whereas Apple enforces a design guideline onto the Apps.
The Goodmans last line was the most important
"Play with all phones you like in the shop and see which one you like"
The OP needs to go play and see how they manage without a manual in store, and then decided if they want to pay more for the design conistancy of Apple, or can get along with an Android phone.0 -
It's incorrect. Android do have higher malwareAndroid 2.3.7 was made available in September 2011, around six months ago.
Google Play will not display apps that are incompatible with your device.
Ignored the usual goodman Apple sanctimony.
Others can see the release date for 2.3 below, 2.3.7 is the last minor update.

It's nice to know google play will not display apps which do not work with your phone. I want all apps to work not some.0 -

Do you know anything about the software development cycle, regulatory testing AMD contractual arrangements involving manufacturers and telephone network operators?
Your argument falls down as the device in question will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. It's nice to know google play will not display apps which do not work with your phone. I want all apps to work not some.
Even Siri on your iPhone 4?
That is not a good user experience, especially when you are dealing with paid-apps.0 -

Not going to happen on any platform.
There are dependancies on phone hardware (You can't get a GPS app to work if theres no GPS chip) and underlying OS availability (if something required IOS 5.1 or honeycomb or ICS as a base it won't work on a lower level OS).0 -

I think everyone understand that if phone don't have a gps or front camera than satnav or video call is not going to work. The manufacture can only support the device for around three years.
With android many normal apps such as games and tv apps do not work with all devices.0 -

Why not give some examples?
As you do have an android handset.0 -

But that is not quite true with Apple either, they software restrict some features to later models only.
Much as I like my IP4 it does not have Siri (as anewhope mentioned).
However, Siri DID run on prior phones, and was closed down on older phones as well as being pulled from the store. One can only assume it was pulled to make it a 4S exclusive feature.
My IP4 nor my ipad 1cannot do video mirroring by default, but with jailbreaking (http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-enable-hdmi-video-mirroring-on-iphone-4-ipod-touch-4g-tutorial/) and a bit of jiggery pokery the hardware can be made to do it again suggesting Apple deliberatly disabled it in earlier models (both the iPhone 4 and the original Ipad) again presumably to help drive sales of the 4s.
In both cases the performance is poorer on the non supported devices, but it works, Apple just chose to disable it.0 -

I think your last sentence tells you precisely why Apple doesn't include these features.0 -

Not sure it does.
Siri worked fine in a Iphone 4 till it became an launch feature of the 4S, then it got pulled.0
