5.45am? sure your pulling my leg there mate.

Lol sorry, I forgot to add, that’s for people who are doing the 6am-2pm start. The other one is 2pm-10pm. If you’re on the latter then you should be at the reception at 1.45pm.

To those starting at Solihull worried about driving up to the airport car park - don't be. Just do a dry run beforehand to familiarise yourself with the route. Get a good nights sleep and aim to get to the airport for 5am if you have a 6am start - better early than late. Also, don't just get off with the rest of the crowd or you might be in for a bit of a walk. :rotfl: If your meeting point is the Main reception - speak to the shuttle bus driver and get off accordingly. At first the site will be daunting but in time you'll find your bearings. Stick to walkways - don't get run over! There is a lot of traffic onsite - especially before the start of shift.

I would recommend getting dropped off at the Main Entrance during your Pera training (if you can get someone/a taxi to drop you off). This will allow you to simply focus on settling in to your 'training' period at JLR - although the apprehension you feel in advance is always worse than being there on the day.

Life after training? This totally depends on what department, zone, shift and what job you get allocated to. In general terms in Trim and Final: There is a moving assembly line (could be the floor itself or a carrier) and each person has approx 84 seconds to complete a series of processes. You'll be given training and support at first but you will soon be expected to 'hold' the job and be left to do it on your own. At first it might feel like you're in the twilight zone, running around like a headless chicken, wake up bruised with sore hands and wonder how on earth you'll achieve the task they expect of you within the 84 seconds. But after a little while doing it - something will just click into place and you'll then have achieved the 'knack' for it and wonder why you had such a hard time to begin with.

You will always have support. Whether this is from your group leader, the coverman/coverwoman or the colleagues working opposite or to the side(s) of you. More often than not they will go out their way to make sure you settle in okay as they have all been newbies at some point. Most people are fairly pleasant to work with and there is a good level of banter and conversation. It is best not to overthink things. Just let it come and make the most of the experience. I would guess many of the people starting will have had very little/no experience of such a working environment. But the great thing about humans is how well we adapt. ;)

U seem to be in the same boat as me. This waiting game is a joke.
I had my interview on the 23rd of January n still waiting. When I call up they tell me it could be another couple of weeks for a start date.

    Any ideas buddy?
  • Excellent post from lexon123 above.

For the first couple of weeks on the track you will ache, regardless of how fit you are.
  • Hello everyone. What are the chances of the job becoming permanent? Just a little worried if I give up a permanent job to go Solihull and after a few months they say we're no longer needed.

Cheers mate for the post, it has helped ease my mind a little. I am looking forward to getting started now.
