With regards the interview, sorry you'll have to take your chances like everyone else ;). Don't worry it's not too hard there are no trick questions and the interviewers are all human. :rotfl:

As for shifts, it will depend on the area you are working.

I am on days and night, fortnight about. (At Castle Brom)

    Days - 7.45 - 3.15, one 20min break, 35min lunch and 10min break.
Nights -8.15 - 6.00, breaks the same apart from last one which is slightly longer due to longer shift.

Other blocks are on different shifts and they are all changing around anyway.

Whoever told you that by law they have to give you an hour lunch break doesn't know what they are talking about!

    Thanks for the reply.

I understand about being fair to everyone else. Can I at least ask whether they were competency based questions? I've only ever had 1 interview before and it was competency based, asking me questions about what I did in situations I've never encountered. Had to make everything up. As you can probably tell I didn't get that job, so I'd like to be better prepared.

Also can you be a bit more specific about the break times. So if you start at 7:45, when will the breaks be? I know it's a weird question but it's critical to me accepting this job. Sorry for the bother :)
  • Is anyone still getting calls regarding the positions at JLR? I recently received an email from manpower saying that due to the number of applicants that have already completed all stages of the application process, they won't be putting me through the manual assessment. But this morning I received a call from 0121 384 8200, which seems to be direct from JLR. I couldn't take the call as I was driving and I can't call the number back as it seems to be outgoing calls only. I applied through manpower for a production operative role, but also direct for a skilled trade vacancy.

Has anybody else received a call from this number that could shed some light on what it could be regarding, or a number that I can contact jag recruitment direct?

    Many thanks

All calls I have received were from manpower and were all withheld

Sorry just re-read my post, the start time on days should have been 6.45 not 7.45 ( In my defence, I am on nights and was just waiting for kids to be ready for school before going to bed :rotfl:)

    Breaks are:- Days, 09.30 (20 mins), 12.25 lunch (35mins) and 14.30 (10mins)

    Nights:- 22.30 (20mins), 01.30 lunch (35 mins) and 04.00 (14?mins).

As I say, different blocks are on different shift patterns so depending on where you end up you can be on a variety of shifts, with different breaks, Days, Nights, Double Days, 4 from 5, Afternoons Mornings Nights. And maybe more.

As for specific break times, if you "really really need" this job, I don't see that that is relevant. You are in work and take the breaks at the specified times, although they expect you to have some flexibility and they can ask you to take different times as required. A few times we have had to have an early lunch due to breakdowns.

The interview is that sort but you are can draw from all aspects of your life, not just work, and they are everyday experiences. There are kids who have started with very little (or no) work experience, just relax and try not to waffle.

This is only my 3rd job in 25 years, the first was a shoe-in from a YTS, so no interview and the second about 8 years ago, the interview was more me asking them questions, so this was my first formal interview experience.

Now what i don't get is, having passed the online assessment, having passed the manual assessment (completed both tests correctly within the tie limits) having passed the interview - to receiving the pat on the back email confirming i have successfully completed all stages.

I don't see how we can get to this:

    "Dear candidate

Further to our previous e-mails we wanted to update you on your status in the recruitment programme for Jaguar Land Rover West Midlands.

As you are aware you have completed all stages of the recruitment process.

Due to the overwhelming success of our applicants the vacancies for this campaign are now filled. However we are waiting for confirmation of our next opportunities and will keep you informed.

We appreciate your patience during this time.

    Manpower Team"

I've passed everything they've put in front of me, yet it seems i've basically applied for a job that doesn't exist. Now more to the point, i've been told there's no positions, so obviously manpower know there are no positions so why are they still interviewing?! Think it's a case of falsely getting peoples hopes up...

While i still "hope" something comes of being on the books, i'm questioning whether i'ld really want to work for an agency so backward.

Best of luck to those going for interviews, try to prepare around 10 competency based questions for the interview, mainly relating to teamwork, reliability, flexibility and ingenuity.

As they say, it matters not, how impressive the situation was - just what effect you had on it.

I would imagine from this line that they are hoping that further opportunities will become available and would therefore need to have people on the books who have passed all stages ready to call upon at short notice. They would look rather foolish if they get a call from JLR and have no one available. That is what I am hoping and taking from this e-mail.

Latest reports say 700 new jobs to be created @ jlr engine plant which is being built in wolves. So might be why interviews have started again??

Maybe, but I don't think that plant is due to open for another twelve to eighteen months.

There could be quite a few people who want to transfer there from Castle Brom, I know a couple and there were people I had assessments/interviews with who were getting in at CB to be able to transfer there.
