ive been at jag now for 5 weeks started 10th sept 2 weeks pera and this week just finished my 3rd week on track in trim. As is said before I didnt bother joining the union because I'm a temp so i dont know how long im going to be there so there is no point. If you do your job right and turn up no one will bother you..so you shouldnt need the help of the union..its there for long term concerns and long term means its mainly for the benefit of JLR employees. The temps are working for Manpower (Manpower pay us not JLR). we are based at JLR. Thats the thing they need to get into their heads.

I dont dream of being there this time next year I just take every week as it comes. The more you start reading into it and listening to rumours the more you get worried/excited. Heresay will always be heresay. just go with the flow and relax!!, You applied, you got in, your doing the job, your getting paid what you was told you would,...whats the fuss about?.

My advise is sit tight and wait for the call for those that havent heard anything. You will hear as and when they need more people. People start and leave as they find it too difficult, some get sacked for various reasons like criminal records not declared etc. The shifts start on 22nd oct. So basicall they will need to double there work force if they havent alreay done so to run the opposite shift. Its a long winded process , you cant have 500 people turn up one day and all get trained up ready, they are getting filtered in slowly and getting trained up so it doesnt disrupt the production due to errors etc. There is one week left for shifts and then once the shifts start, then they will know where they stand.

I saw approx 6 new lads start on my line this monday 08/10/12 but all these were transfered from Landrover solihull. I found this strange as i read on the previous 2 pages that a couple of people were called in to start immediately at solihull so its just supply to demand.

At the end of the day Manpower staff are temps which means no security you can debate and argue who knows best till you're blue in the face, no one knows how long you will be there for. Go in do your job, work hard and go with the flow. I dont hope for anything as i know it would/could lead to disappointment.

The jobs are there for now, the launch of the Sportbrake will be the main deciding factor not pay or anything else rumoured. if it sells and the demand is there..they will need to make it and fast to keep up with the demand. hence the shifts, if it doesnt then theres no need for so many people, so some of the new lot will get laid off. Simple. The F-type is also being launched / produced hence the jobs. Again how long the jobs last depends on the sucess of these new cars.

You all knew it was temp on going when you applied. so no one can say how long its for. Thats the risk you were prepared to take. Now just go with the flow and take every week as it comes.

And those that say oh they have spent so much training you up why would they get rid...if that was the case they would have given us the rolling 3 month jag contracts straight away!. The pera training is paid/partly funded by the goverment so the more they enrol on to it the better for them. On the track the jobs are not something you need an engineering degree for. It took me a couple of hours to learn each stage of my job there are a few stages . The hardest thing is to pick up speed..even that takes a week if you are an active person. Which means the temp staff are easily disposable/replacable.

The us and them atmosphere is something ive picked up on aswell, Ive noticed the big boys walking around, they will say hello or aknowlege the proper JLR employees but just ignore the Manpower lot as if they werent even there. Manpower staff are at the bottom of the pile simple as! and the ones at the bottom are at most at risk!

Nobody is suggesting that there isn't an us and them atmosphere. The point im merely making is, that by engaging in that kind of behavior were only adding to the problem. If thats how they feel then fuk em, that's their problem that they have to deal with. All we have to do is be polite and pleasent get your head down and do your job. The initial point of my post was simply to let people know what may happen if they join after jan 1st. they have already pre-sold 4k sportsbrakes, but then again that isn't very much. but we will never really know, they ramping up production of the xf ( well in E block anyway) from between 30-70 a night to 150. That's come from managment to us in e block. Just get your heads down and graft.
  • Punk, do you know how many XF's are sold and waiting production?

I don't know mate we was just told about the targets we would be hitting on night shift, I only know about the sport brake as that directly affects us in BIW as they can't seem to get it right still, although it's getting their apparently. Unlike in trim and final where you keep going till days end. Once we have reached our target for the day we stop and either clean or start mainetance logs etc.

Thank you. I have yet to see any of this mistreatment that others have alleged,
  • Nobody has suggested mistreatment, Just that there are divisions between the Jag & agency workers (which I personally think there are). We are all working to the collective to achieve long term success for ourselves & the company.

I'm sorry if I've made out we're hard done by, I enjoy working there and will do the utmost to keep myself working there over the long term.
