This morning when filling up the car (it's a business tool and needs fed on average twice a week) I was mildly surprised that there was a queue at all. But after waiting for the four cars in front of me on "my side" of the pump island to fill up and go, surprisingly quickly, I found the lovely lady in the Punto in front had managed to squeeze a massive £9.15 into the tank!
There isn't a strike, if there is, you will have a full weeks notice, stop buying fuel you don't need.

Same people would be first in to a lifeboat, first out of a fire, first to grab the aid in a disaster, first to fill up in a crisis. Why, because they are survivors and the rat race is survival of the fittest.
Morals wont get you to work or save your job when the sackings come for not been able to get there.

Each of the above examples implies the disaster has actually occurred and so they are inappropriate comparisons. The current bunch of idiots were probably in the supermarket panic buying Heinz Salad Cream when those apocalyptic rumours spread.

This is not survivor mentality, it is mass neurosis; nothing to do with survival of the fittest.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

Maybe 50 or so, I don't rely on my car, but I want it available to use in an emergency situation.

so you have enough fuel for about 8-10 weeks depending on what car you drive..........you are not selfish.......you are a !!!!!!

Unfortunately (for you) that's exactly what the politicians were going for. The "what if" scenario. Think of all the fuel duty, VAT and other revenue that has been made at the expense of panic-buying idiots. Kerrrching :)

Petrol and diesel prices have increased by 4-5p/litre as a result of the psychotic morons who want a car brimmed full of petrol sitting on their drive "just in case" they need to drive to the other side of the country "in an emergency" :rotfl:

Well my GF's car is filled (with LPG) every other day, without it she would be stuck in the house and unable to work. She is not changing her refuelling pattern. Not sure if a tanker drivers strike will affect LPG supplies in any case?

Mine is filled roughly once a fortnight (with diesel) and was filled just before this, so I've not changed my refuelling pattern.

The Cefiro is a combination of a toy and an emergency spare, yes we're that dependent on cars for work that we've always had a spare car. That car needed filling anyway.

Oh, and just to add, crap like this is why it's so important to have a working spare car that she can drive:

So just to get this straight. Some people feel they need to go out and fill up with petrol even although they are not going to use it. If the tanker drivers go out on strike in two weeks time, will you not have used up that petrol and need to have the panic all over again. Similar to, I assume, you are stockpiling water because it might not rain again. Oh wait a minute, there IS a drought down south - what are you all doing about that?

    Maybe they would.
But you'd also want the lifeboat full of diesel even if you were last in it wouldn't you?

I imagine those stupid enough to be panic buying are too stupid to understand LPG so she'll probably be alright.

Apparently she ended up trolling a lot of people when she left work a few hours ago. The station was completely out of petrol/diesel/super, just LPG and the shop.

So she's there on an otherwise deserted forecourt, parked at a pump filling up, people would be driving past, stomp on the brakes and pull into the station only to find that they can't use the pump she was using and the rest of the pumps aren't working. :D

I can get 160 miles from my tank so I've actually got 3 weeks worth.

It's easy to hide behind the anonymity of the Internet, and call people a "!!!!!!" when you've no basis in fact to substantiate such an insult.

I'm guessing you wouldn't say that to my face, out in the real world, as likely as not you wouldn't even think of it, or want to do so.

    Time to grow up.
