  • Just a thought but the 6 months may not include training time, which is why people are being more than 6 months before they are asked back?

I received all 4 of the pictured junk mail items for the unaddressed survey today - well I received 48 junk mail items in one go as I live in flats - this really annoys me, so much unwanted junk mail that will go straight in the recycle bin!

I'm confused as to why they are making returners go through training again - 6 months is not that long and I know for a fact I won't have forgotten how to prepare items to send and log received items (and this is my first 6 months on the scheme!). Surely a week or two would be long enough if they insist on it, just to check that nothing has been forgotten? I found the training process singularly useless anyway as it didn't involve SMARTS and I found myself coming on here to ask questions of more experienced panel members rather than waiting for Royal Mail's excruciatingly slow replies to query emails. It must be particularly annoying for those of you who have been doing this for a long time, unless there is any change in the procedures we use then I see no reason for further training.

  • Yah I'm back on the panel, I'm surprised as its only been about 3 months, thought it would be 6 months before previous members were invited back?

I'm about to be rested, but the email said it's only for 4 or 5 months, so with any luck there's not so many people registered in my area. Got a nice presentation pack as a goodbye as well. Won't miss the nipping out of work at odd times to get to a post box!
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Not had any unadressed mail as yet, only have 2 to look out for this week!

I phoned to check and it includes anything that is not addressed to you that the postie drops through! Leflets are included as are any to the occupier!

Having to redo the training if you've already been doing the job recently is plain stupid - but not altogether surprising given the half-baked way in which most of this scheme operates. I suppose that does at least fit in with the way that RM itself operates, though.

More importantly, though, does the training period count for the purpose of the 'free' stamps? I rather think it does, in which case - no problem. Less work to do! :)

As much as I miss the free stamps while being rested, it is nice not to have to keep going to the postbox when I don't want to even go out!

Living in London we get piles of junk leaflets through our door daily from multiple leaflet deliverers - the only way I can tell what is from the postman is if I see him and also he puts exactly 12 of each through where leaflet deliverers may put a random handful - it's hard though as I think a leaflet deliverer had been round just before the postie so I didn't include those. Maybe it's not so bad in other areas of the country ie out of big towns, for having general leaflet deliverers round every day though as well as the postie?
  • On the training notes for the unaddressed survey (on the News and Features page on the website) it seems to say to include ALL leaflets and stuff that comes through the door - not just those from the postman.

"Unaddressed mail is mail that is not addressed directly to a current or prior household occupant. This category of mail includes takeaway menus, catalogues, local newspapers, insurance leaflets, and promotional literature."
