Yes I had an email from a named individual. To be fair although it doesn't help with the accuracy of the data, I feel it makes sense that, if you know leaflets, etc came via distributors and not RM, it is obvious they should not be included in your count..

It wasn't obvious to me. They might want to know what extra business RM might be able to pick up - that is they know they are delivering 4 items to a particular area and yet 8 items are received - so there could be extra business for them to gain for the unknown 4.

One could also ask why they include Sunday as a report day for the Unaddressed Survey when they know RM doesn't work on a Sunday. After all, they don't include Sundays in the Correctly Delivered returns.

There was a mini (unpaid) survey done a while ago which was about items which didn't bear the RM insignia (eg DHL). We were asked to let them know who had sent the mail - presumably so that those organisations could be targeted to use RM instead.

I am quite pleased as I have been on training for 4
weeks and I just got email to say I had won a £10
prize draw prize yesterday, the postman knocked at
    12. 50 today with registered letter with £10 love to
shop voucher inside, very good for posting 8 letters
plus the first class and 4 large stamps too
First thing I have won this year too
  • This happened to me too.

Isn't the price of postage ridiculous for that virtually empty box ?!
Yet another example of them not knowing what is going on. The price of the small box has not been increased from £2.60 (2nd class) to £5.20 so there was never any need to send extra stamps to stick on the box. On the small print of the Royal Mail price guide it states "Exemptions apply. The following items are also priced as Small Parcels. Parcels that measure up to Length 16cm, Width 16cm, Depth 16cm. These are exactly the dimensions of the small boxes. So they should still cost £2.60 2nd class, £3 first class and not the exhorbitant price of a medium parcel.

If that is your interpretation then fair enough. The unpaid DHL, TNT, UK Mail survey were all items that were delivered by the Royal Mail not distributers.

Hi, I just received my first 2 'SMARTS' one in white envelope and one in a brown envelope.
I have recorded them in the 'enter received items'. What do I do with these smarts now?, (send them back in the white envelope received in the mailing?) - WHEN do i send them? - asap or wait until they send me more??

    thanks for any help.

Once recorded, keep the smarts until they're needed.

You will probably be asked to include smarts in future mailings. Add when required, following instructions.

Quite often you are asked to return to them, but keep until needed.

PLEASE REMOVE any reference to the name of a company or individual you receive test mail from....I have blanked the name from the above quote and hope that you will do the same!

In answer to your question....you retain the smarts until you either need to enclose them in a test item you are sending or you return them in the smart envelope if you are asked to.

A nyone else wishing to reply to this poster...and quote their post please remember to delete the information regarding naming a fellow panelist!!!!!

I know your question has been answered but have you actually read the information under "training"?

If you select the training option, the last option is Survey Guidelines, completion of training. This has full details of how to deal with the Smarts.

Also always worth reading News & Features regularly as this is where they inform about any new information we should know.

I have only recently re-started the survey and there are certainly one or two new instructions from before.

Exactly - the initial processing is done by the other companies. We were reporting on who the senders were rather than the handlers.

So we could report that XYZ Building Society had used one of the other compaies and RM could then target XYZ Building Society. Don't know if that was really the intention but it was possible. It might not have been the best way of building business intelligence.
