do you mean an undersheet for when they are toilet training? i buy them for beds (it helps with asthma and eczema) from argos, woolworths etc. but haven't seen one for a cot.

i don't know about cot mattress coverings, mine is breathable and the cover comes off for washing. it's good enough for when they are sick but i think if he wet the bed the mattress would be ruined. i don't think he will be training before he goes into a bed though.

Like this one, its like the ones for toilet training but in cot size. My mattress is from Ikea the cover and foam are washable. the cover is 50% cotton and 50% polyester. I have a feeling as she will be new born she may not need one as this would make the mattress unbreathable.

What do you think, did yours ever have them.

I found out I was pregnant last week. I'm week 5 (technically 3 weeks) I think. I've found it really hard knowing what's normal. I've not been sick but my boobs are really painful and I get cramps occasionally. I'm really tired too. So far my best investment has been buying a pregnancy magazine. It really helps a first timer with reassurance, it's not biased against any type of motherhood or birth and you get a free gift that is generally useful.

I've also joined every parenting club I can.

I plan on going to work after nine months, however I'm hoping to start teaching at this point which will enable me to spend plenty of time with my child but allow me to continue working. I do feel that many people get a bit self righteous about the work matter. We shouldn't judge any situation we know nothing about no matter how strongly we feel.

    Hi ladies!

I don't know if I am on the right thread, but I think I may be pregnant! I am 38 and been married for 11 months, but hoping for a family.

I am 4 days late, where I am usually VERY regular to the day. My hubby and I went away on a weeks break 3 weeks ago to 'try and make babies', and I did a home test this morning that came out positive! BUT the test did expire in Dec (a friend gave it to me a few weeks ago!). I have been getting cramps, so keep thinking I am going to 'come on' and my boobs are VERY tender.

Where can I get cheap pregnancy kits? They are so expensive in Boots etc, and I wanted to buy another one before making a doctors appointment, just incase I am jumping the gun! I am in shock this morning, but trying not to get too excited and will be shocked if I am, as cannot believe it would happen so fast being a bit older! This is our first real attempt!

I did see a thread on here ages ago about cheap kits, but cant find the thread?
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks

    Hi Dibdob

Firstly congrats. If you have had a positive test already then you are pregnant! Honestly - the chances of having a false positive are only likely if you have a very rare health condition (can't remember the name of it!) :o

If you have a Home Bargains or a Savers locally you can pick up pregnancy tests for between £1 and £2 each (and yes they are just as accurate as any more expensive test!)

There is a whole board for Family related moneysaving HERE where you will find loads of useful info about pregnancy and baby essentials etc.

There is also a 'pregnancy club' thread which is more chatty and is the place for all us expectant mums to gather and exchange pregnancy gossip! (I'm due mid-July with my second child.) Hope to see you over there soon.
  • As a small person who spent most of her childhood ill in bed  , I decided that I would not pass on the family asthma - so no children for me (to Mum's disgust  ).

However I recently joined Freecycle :rotfl: where members advertise their offers and wants. Anything posted is free but must be collected ditto the wants.

There are many offers of baby and toddler clothes plus prams, cots, sterilising kit etc. Must be a good money saver! :T

I haven't read all the thread, so please excuse me if this has already been said.

If you stay at home to care for your children you are given contributions towards your pension, but only for so long. What I would suggest is that people intending to do this, is contact the pension people and find out how long they cover you for,

If you are going to stay at home longer, make sure that you pay your national insurance contributions to ensure you get your full pension when you retire.

You will get credits towards your pension throughout the period you stay at home, provided that the Child Benefit is in your name. :)

Just jumping in (haven't read all the thread - but some brill advice) check out National Childbirth Trust's (NCT) Nearly New sales for clothing and equipment...I expect someone's posted that already though...
and re pregnancy test kits - if it's positive you're pregnant...it's the NEGATIVE results which may be unreliable - insufficient hormone in sample...
