    Hi there, :)

just wanted to resurrect this thread to find out if anyone has any tips on where to find the cheapest raspberry leaf tea?

    Thanks in advance!

    Weezl x

Hi Weezl - when I needed it I bought the dried leaves and just made it like ordinary tea in a pot.

Must have worked, my longest labour was just under 2 hours (the others were 1.5 hours and 40 mins:eek: )

I probably bought it in holland and barratt but it was 25 yrs ago.

I got raspberry leaf tea from Julian Graves on one of their half price days, they seem to do them randomly but well worth looking out for! HTH x

When I read the title of this thread I thought "Having a baby old style? That's were you work until you go into labour, have the baby in the field then sling it on your back and carry on ploughing".

    I'll get my coat !

Not because I'm leaving, the heatings just gone off :D
  • My nan was a farmer's wife and had to deliver two pigs to the next farm (several miles away!) on the day she delivered my father! She was in labour with a piglet under each arm! That IS old style.

I was the fourth child, born in 1959. My dad told me that when my eldest sister was born the hospital made my mother stay in bed for 3 weeks. The same when my other two sisters were born.

With me the hospital said she had to stay there 3 weeks, the first week in bed then she could get up for short periods. After I was born she told the midwife to go to h*ll and brought me home on the bus the same day.

My dad came home, to find mother was in labour and had been taken to the hospital. He got changed into his best clothes and went to the bus stop to catch the bus to the hospital. While he was there a bus stopped across the road and my mother got off carrying me.

I have two younger brothers, both were born at home.

re. the raspberry leaf tea - proceed with caution! i got some from Holland and Barrett
i had a 1 hr 40 mins labour, going straight into contractions every minute from nothing, no gradual build up.
i think i was a bit traumatised TBH

I spose i had her old style, no pain relief to start with cos the gas was all i could have and THAT was empty, and she has an OS name, Florence:)

    Thanks all!

I'll try H and B and Julian Graves.

Re: old-style babies, I'm thinking that my (hopefully!) homebirth might be a money-saver. Once I'd realised that any visitors plus me and DH will have to pay £5.25 a day to park at the hospital, and fork out for endless cups of tea and sarnies (cos I can imagine we'll get hungry at odd hours!), I thought it would be more old-style to stay at home!;)

We're borrowing a birth pool from a friend and have a tarpaulin from our camping days and stacks of old towels accumulated over the years, so I can't think of any big costs really, only the hot water to keep topping up my pool!:D

Just trying to think of what food and drink to have in for the midwives (better be nice to them, they'll be a life-line!
    )

I did have one very old-style idea, but thought it was a bit dumb on reflection. :oI grew raspberries last year, so was thinking of making the tea myself from dried leaves, but I think with the bags and tablets that at least you know you're getting the right strength!!!

If you live in a Surestart area they will give you a brand new breast pumps for free - this is what I got when I was breastfeeding - they also give loads of advice & support not just on breastfeeding but all aspects of parenting - I found them invaluable. Check out the Surestart website to find out if you live in the required borough - good luck x
