I saw about the price increase online today - can anyone tell me, if you buy a book of "first" or "second" class stamps, which don't have the value stamped on them, can you continue using them after the price increase?
If so, what is to stop us stocking up with loads before they increase the prices?
As someone else said, "1st" and "2nd" stamps can be used regardless of the prevailing price, hence my post saying stock up now.
Should have said though that people need to buy normal "1st" and "2nd" class - not the ones with the value printed on (e.g. 46p stamps). If you use the ones with the price on, you have to make the correct current price with the values.0 -

Probably worth buying a few books before then if you use stamps. :money:Firstwatch wrote: »Hi OP, may I ask what is your source for this? I was in the PO yesterday asking them about price rises and if they had a new leaflet for charges, the one which usually says "Postal charges from 4th April 20XX", but they looked embarrassed and said they had no idea.
Then this morning I saw on the news that Ofcom will be allowing Royal Mail to set their own prices for Stamps.
If this is the case, and providing that 1st and 2nd class stamps marked as such are still inflation proof and worth the current value, I'm off to buy £100 worth, for cards and ebay sales!!

There's nothing like a misguided rant
Personally I think Royal Mail is brilliant. Try living in America and experiencing their service.
As for 'snail mail' , it got that tag as it takes around a day for a 1st class, unlike email which is instant.0 -
Try checking the cost to post a letter other than the U.K. We're one if not the cheapest delivery.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

thanks for taking the time to register, to post this0 -
I must say I'm with Allieblue73 on this complaint on this one. When I was living in India it was cheaper to post parcels and letters to my relatives in the Uk than it costs to post them across a city in the UK. Th price is unbelievable - which is how it often works out cheaper and more reliable to use a door to door courier than queue in th post office. Rant now over.
Question time?
After the hike you can obviously use a first class stamp to post a first class letter. But the question is can you combine first class stamps to make other amounts. For example to send something which costs £1.75 could you use 3 46p stamps - as their collective new value would be 3x60p ie £1.80There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0
