Staples have no more stock and are not expecting any more before the price rise.0

It seems to me that the Ocado deal is the best. See this thread.0

Are there any circumstances at all - that could make purchasing vast numbers of stamps prior to the price rise a mistake ?
I mean - even if the queen dies - the stamps will still be valid ?
What about the post office going under ? - Would the company taking over be obliged to honour the stamps ?
Just being careful........0 -
I just bought enough stamps to last a couple of years. I feel comfortable with that. It did cross my mind to buy say £10,000 worth and then try and sell them on after the price rise, but I would not feel particularly comfortable having that value of what is effectively cash lying around the house. Plus, I am not sure how easy it would be to sell them. Most businesses doing bulk mailing do not use stamps these days.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Plus you would have to tell mr Taxman about any profits that you made !!!
Not a good move - if you want to stay legal ..0 -

The only one I can think of is that you lose/burn/mislay/soak them and they aren't covered or aren't worth claiming for on your home insurance.
I guess they are covered like cash, but it may not be worth claiming du to premium loadings for 3-5 years. So yes there are risks to keeping anything of value in your home.
However that's the only risk I can't think of.
I actually keep mine in my purse which I guess isn't the safest place.0 -

I'm not sure why you assume that anyone wouldn't be telling Mr Taxman? You were responding to someone speculating about spending thousands of pounds on stamps and then reselling them. They might be self-employed, otherwise in business or submitting self-assessment anyway. So why assume otherwise?
Yes, selling would generate profits liable to tax - but why assume that declaring this would be a problem? Why suggest it's 'not a good move if wanting to stay legal'? Why assume tax-dodging? You're assuming this person intends to break the law - but with no evidence at all. Which is a bit rude.
Taxation will reduce the profit - but there would still be a profit. And it would be absolutely legal.0 -
I'm self-employed and it would go through the company's books, so it's all absolutely legit. However, I'm not convinced that there's any good way of selling the stamps on.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Read the full thread - Ocado exclude stamps from their minimum order (i.e. the £90 in the £30 off £90). Lots of people are having their orders cancelled if they order just stamps.
I have ordered just stamps from Sainsburys, one order had £10 off £50 and was delivered fine, another order was just over £100 of stamps (no money off but free delivery for over £100) and it was delivered no problem also.
Current price of stamps is very good compared to what they will be so just getting stocked up now is a good price.

Gary.
They do however deliver stamps if you order another item with them (obviously one that is worth it and that you will use)0
