That will have to do for tonight as i'm off now - thanks for all the help. If you spot anything else i'll sort it tomorrow. Someone is now going to use the PC to watch TV so hopefully i'll get some feedback.
Likelihood is i'll buy more RAM anyway, but hopefully all this has helped!
Thanks again.0 -
if you look at the commit charge, you are only using a third of installed ram, so extra ram wont make any noticeable difference, a graphics card might if you are still having problems and are sure it's not isp related.
installing cleanmem may also improve ram use
which modem are you using, the bt voyager 105? There are 3 programs at startup related to that, and camera software - they don't need to be running at boot - aol may give you a free wireless router if you ask
Disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok!!

Nobody has tried to watch TV yet, so maybe when they are watching later i'll take a peek at the commit charge and see what happens.
D/l Cleanmem earlier and will use.
Bt Voyager 105 - i'll see what I can do in the morning. I could get a wireless router - just worried on how i'd use it. I'm not overly technical.
I keep disabling ctfmon but it keeps coming back on for some reason. I've done it again though.
Will report back tomorrow.0 -
try using IE instead of firefox or chrome to watch iplayer, it uses less ram, and reset the homepage to www.google.co.uk
did you do a full scan with malwarebytes? also do a scan with http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe
a router, wired or wireless just plugs into your network (ethernet) port (assuming that you have one?), and maintains the internet connection for you, once you have told it your aol password/details and a few other settings - guides should be available on the aol site.
correct cleanmem installer is called cleanmem_v2.3.2_setup.exe , if you downloaded any other filename, don't install it - (some people have trouble downloading the correct software)
if firefox (or chrome) is full of addons, and is set to do updates (tools, options, advanced) that may also have an impact on speed.
these browser externsions could be disabled - ie, tools, manage addons

What makes you think that the number wrong?? Because the Crucial Tool told you so?
Everything points to you getting the number right in the first place.
The E5615 uses different processors, has a different Motherboard and was supplied with PC2-5300.
You most certainly do have the E5905.
In this instance, I do recommend you get more RAM, do to Video RAM being duplicated in to system memory once you have your new graphics card.
RAM here
Should be a world of difference when it comes to performance, especially now that you are cleaning up.0 -

Will look at all this tomorrow but just looked at commit charge and it's around 800,000.
Person using has Chrome open with Facebook and tv catchup. Also running Silverbird. I could barely get the cursor to move or any webpage to respond.
IE was worse. It had never been a good browser for us.0 -

I thought the Crucial tool would know? EDIT - found a sticker on the side with loads of info and E5905 was there. d'oh
Thanks for the RAM link. Think we'll get some RAM and the graphics card alongside closed's cleanup help and see if that helps.
May as well get a decent chunk.of RAM.0 -
narrow it down
is it the browser, facebook, or tv catchup, or the fact you are trying to do all three at once - try one at atime, in different browsers, closing the other browsers to release ram.
Could also be modem related, a router would take some load off the system when you are streaming through a usb connection!!

I personally think its all 3 at once as I was fine with tv catchup and chrome together.
She wants it all together though, which I guess is more ram?
And no she won't accept the suggestion of one thing at a time0 -
still have 20% ram spare with 800M commit.
check cpu in task manager, and try the test.!!
