I can only reiterate meritaten's words. A lovely start to a whole new relationship with your birth family.

    All the very best SDW.

    Hi all.

Well the meeting was wonderful, door was opened by aunt's niece on her husband's side, birth mother was standing in the hall. I gave her a hug and she was crying, but I just told her everything was Ok. Aunt then came into hall, on a walking frame but otherwise Ok and looking incredibly young for 93 (birth mother looked young too - I know now where my youthful looks come from!).

Sat down on sofa, my husband doled out the chocs I had bought for all three and I gave birth mother the flowers I had bought her. Then we exchanged photos. She told me later that she had wanted to keep me but couldn't as she had to look after her mother. She was crying again, I just hugged her again
and told her again that it was all OK, I understood and that she had done the right thing.

A guy came in who is some relative of aunt's, very pleasant and he has said he will bring them over to see me :)

Stayed about 1.5 hours, just right, held her hand the whole time.

Will visit again with my son.

Thanks all for your support, it has been invaluable.

Just read your thread update and now sitting at my desk in tears:), so happy for you that it went well. Big hugs xxx

Another one coming out of the woodwork, what a lovely thread, I am at work with tears streaming down my face, I come on MSE everyday but rarely post, I felt compelled to, its odd really how a strangers story can have such an impact, all the best SDW.

oh SDW I am so pleased that it went well.

14 years ago I met 3 of my sisters that until a few months before I didn't know existed, it was incredibly emotional so I can in some small way appreciate what a big day it was for you both.

I hope you can have lots of meetings again in the future.

    That is really fantastic news.

Like so many other MSE people I was wondering how the meeting went. So very glad it went so well and that you were welcomed by all the family members you met. What a lovely outcome after all these years.

Some things are meant to be......well done...The odds of you finding your mother alive and well must be amazing...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
