You should think about changing your username if you know that little about Utilities.

To ensure the message gets across to any prospective customer of this very expensive gas and electricity company, everyone should be aware that the new Ofgem regulations mean that you must be given a written quotation of prices by any UW doorstep salesman.

You should also be aware that the definition of 'doorstep salesmen' is covered in the Government regulations on this type of selling and includes anyone you invite into your house. This would seem to cover all selling by UW salesmen.

It remains to be seen in what format UW salesmen will present their written quotation. If it meets the spirit of the regulations it should make it perfectly obvious that UW gas and electricity is just about the most expensive in UK and will cost the average customer hundreds of pounds more than the cheapest tariffs.

Existing UW customers would do well to examine how much they could save by switching from their high priced tariff.

Just by UW sales people? Or all utility companies? Its strange I've lived at my house for 7 years and not once have I had a UW sales person at my door, Npower come at least 6 times a year, I hide when I see the little red jackets!! As they lie now to get you to change suppliers I can't see what difference these new rules will make!

Fine, No its not the case that you have to have internet access to find a cheaper deal than UW, all you need is to take both fuels from one supplier and it will cheaper than UW and thats a FACT.

You also seem to think all tariffs have cancellation fees and are fixed, this is usual rubbish touted by UW salesman to put people off going elsewhere, its true that a lot of the cheapest internet deals have cancelation fees HOWEVER there are still plenty of deals available to people that have no lengthy contract and no cancelation fees that are almost all cheaper than UW.

As I said before, take both fuels with ANY supplier and it will almost definately be cheaper than UW.

Why anybody would take fuel from UW is beyond me, its money down the drain.

why not go on their website and get a qoute its easy.

I have tried the uw quote calculator last time you mentioned it, keggs, and again today.

It seems remarkably consistent in its innacurracy. (eg It still doesn't include the compulsory monthly membership fee in its calculations of the massive savings I will make, and though it does point out the membership fee has to be paid, it still has the "old" VAT rate applied to it!)

Anyway, that is a mere bagatelle, as when I sign up, I will apparently be saving £630 a year - and if I take the risky card as well, l will be saving £880!

No wonder the word "gullible" seems appropriate to anyone taking this quote seriously!

PS. You no longer wish to be known as keggs and spurned the suggested ex dancing boy in favour of your new name - what is the point of all this nickname changing? We all can see where you are, you know!

    No all doorstep salesmen.

The point being that all 30,000+ UW salesmen are covered by these new regulations simply because of the way they(did) sell gas and electricity.

UW's Boss(the Hon Charles) obviously realised the impact that these regulations would have, which is why he objected so strongly to the proposals.

The very thought that they might have to put their prices in writing, instead of the 'trust me we are friends/family' selling technique, must be a body blow.

I have little doubt that UW salesmen will find a way around the regulations, the only way to combat this will be massive publicity so everyone knows the facts about UW's very expensive gas and electricty.

The Which? Switch satisfaction survey compared the customer service, accuracy of bills, easy of understanding bills and value for money of eight energy suppliers.

We all know how much faith you can have in a reader's survey when there are 30,000+ UW salesmen, and their family members, all with a strong financial interest in seeing UW perform well.

UW have more salesmen than all the other companies combined.

From the selective WHICH quote [STRIKE]Keggs, Dancing Boy[/STRIKE], Utilityman has neglected to add that WHICH stated that UW were 20% more expensive than the cheapest tariffs.

Of course WHICH with their usual caution have understated the case, as the figure is around 30% more expensive in most cases.

e.g. the average consumption in the UK is 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity. Someone with that consumption in my area(Midlands) would pay £894 on the cheapest tariff. The Cheapest UW tariff would cost £1199

That is a massive £305 extra or 34.1%

Indeed if you want a choice of tariff, there are 10 tariffs listed that are 28% or more cheaper than UW.

Please don't take my word for it - check it out on any comparison website. As UW salesmen are so keen on quoting WHICH - why not check it out on the WHICH website

    http://www.switchwithwhich.co.uk/home.php?m=home&cid=Whomev2

This puts in perspective the rubbish that is spouted by UW salesmen who spam every internet site and sell their hugely expensive gas and electricity to trusting friends and even family!!
