    malo50/EssexMum,

I really wouldn't worry about having to prove your credentials; that hasn't really been why you have been challenged.

This thread has been plauged with posters joining MSE and immediately posting solely on this UW thread. Because so many are imposters(usually UW salesmen) any newcomer is viewed with suspicion. The accusation from Oprastar(who has himself just joined) is that you two and energyman are 'stooges' and it is one of the regular posters simply posting using your names.

As so often happens on this thread, we get(deliberately) diverted away from very high UW prices and the discussion moved onto any other subject.

Certainly oprastar seems to have such an agenda. Be interesting if he is prepared to discuss the very high UW prices and admit that the average UK customer will pay £hundreds more for gas and electricity if they are silly enough to be with UW.

I suspect he won't admit such facts are true or be prepared to discuss UW prices. His Modus operandi is remarkably like 1973safc - who came and went!
Thanks for that, Cardew. I understand, now , what he's saying, what boils my p**s is the manner in which he does it. I think I've jumped through all his hoops, but no apology for damned near calling me and essexmum liars.
I have actually made my mind up to leave UW, and getting called a liar by someone who appears to be an ID, ceratinly isn't the retentions patter I was expecting.

Yes, having taken time to read more of the previous pages, I can fully see how and why this happens here. It's a shame, but there's no other thread covering this topic and it takes effort to fish around all the squabbles in order to gain the info you're looking for.

I like MSE.com - it's always been reliable on other topics but for me this is a first foray into the "boards" - and looking around the rest of the forum, it's important to remember this particular one is like no other!! But then UW is a supplier like no other; it's bound to polarise opinion. In spite of all that, I just wanted to say that, for my personal needs, this thread has been incredibly informative. I hope it remains in place for the sake of other UW customers to benefit from.

Take this graph with a very large pinch of salt as cables rarely if ever run as the crow flies, but it suggests that your line could be capable of 12 mbps or so, of course it depends what you are paying for.

To ensure the message gets across to any prospective customer of this very expensive gas and electricity company, everyone should be aware that the new Ofgem regulations mean that you must be given a written quotation of prices by any UW doorstep salesman.

You should also be aware that the definition of 'doorstep salesmen' is covered in the Government regulations on this type of selling and includes anyone you invite into your house. This would seem to cover all selling by UW salesmen.

It remains to be seen in what format UW salesmen will present their written quotation. If it meets the spirit of the regulations it should make it perfectly obvious that UW gas and electricity is just about the most expensive in UK and will cost the average customer hundreds of pounds more than the cheapest tariffs.

Existing UW customers would do well to examine how much they could save by switching from their high priced tariff.

    Its also laughably inaccurate.

The limited questions they ask to give you a "quote" are a joke!

  • Utility Warehouse has been named the best energy supplier and Npower the worst by consumers fed up with high and complicated bills, in a survey by Which?. pixel.gif

The big six energy suppliers received some of the worst customer satisfaction scores. Npower came bottom for the third year running with a measly 28% overall and British Gas wasn't far behind with 38%.

The Which? Switch satisfaction survey compared the customer service, accuracy of bills, easy of understanding bills and value for money of eight energy suppliers.
Smaller suppliers fared better in the results, with Utility Warehouse getting 75% overall and Ebico getting 66%. Both of these got the highest customer services scores.
In general it found that the majority of bills that energy suppliers were issuing were too full of jargon and left some customers struggling to understand how much they had to pay.
The report suggested that energy bills should include an itemised summary box so customers can see how much they owe and why at a glance.
Martyn Hocking, editor of Which? Magazine said: 'Consumers aren't going to be able to reduce their energy use of find the best deal if they don't understand what's going on. Bills need to be much clearer, and better customer services from the energy companies wouldn't go amiss either.'
Despite coming last in the survey Npower said it has improved customer service and recruited more staff in a bid to clean up its act.
'We're disappointed by the results but recent surveys show us improving and one survey from Call Centre Focus magazine places us second amongst energy suppliers and ahead of other major companies.
We're spending over £200m on new systems and now have 300 more staff in our customer service areas - these changes take time to take effect but we are confident that we will continue to improve.'
A report conducted by uSwitch earlier this month also placed Npower last in its energy supplier customer satisfaction survey, but said that it had showed an 8% improvement in its rating. The best provider in the uSwitch report was Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), which won the consumer vote for the sixth time in a row with an satisfaction rating of 73%. it asks your usage its on your bill so it should be pretty accurate uw dis
