Utility Warehouse is being promoted to members of the GEC/Marconi/Telent pension scheme at the moment which is whay I started looking at this thread.Up till now I had been with Grouch Marx in not wishing to join a club that wanted me to be a member.

You need to ask the pension scheme how much they are getting for promoting this to their members.

Cross posted but the above post tells you exactly why your pension scheme are promoting UW. I have reported the post :)

    Hiya and welcome!

It sounds like they are or one of their members is a fellow distributor like me and if that is the case they will be paid for each new customer.

    Hope this helps?

Can someone from UW please explain

Why do UW compare the cost of their direct debit line rental price against BT,s cash/cheque price?

    https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/Home/home_phone/homephone_info.taf

How is the 53.25p price of the 75 minute call on BT arrived at?

(Not a UW distributor or customer but I looked at that as well). I think they do it because that's what the majority of BT customers are STILL paying to BT, i.e. they pay the bill when it arrives, so of course they are paying a ridiculous mark up by not paying by DD? Agreed, though, I think UW should show the equivalent charge with BT, which I believe would be £11.75 (paper, itemised bill paid by DD). The difference, co-incidentally, is £1.76, which is the monthly fee UW charge! Sorry, no idea how the 53.25p charge for 75 minutes with BT is arrived at...

Edit: Would the saving actually be £2.76? As opposed to £1.76?

    Hi Billsavings

I haven't a clue and I doubt if any UW distributor has either. If it is important to you then perhaps contacting a local AD and ask them to find out.

99% of UW distributors are ordinary people that work their UW businesses part time or spare time - we don't work for UW. We aren't in the business of working out calculations or the ins and outs of a dog's flea ear. All we do is recommend something to someone and ask them if they would like to try it. That's it and all of it.

There may be some UW distributors who like to delve into how things are worked out but I doubt if there are many. We trust the company to know what they are doing. In return they pay us for gathering customers. If members find they like what UW offers them they continue to use the services, if not they leave.

I'm sorry if this answer is not satisfactory but it's correct for the vast majority of us.

I'm not going to be disingenuous by suggesting it's a mischief making question (I would have if it came from 2 other people) but to be honest does it really matter? What really matters is than overall BT charge far more than UW (and everyone else probably), whatever the figures. I saved a lot since I left them and I'm sure most people would if they did as well.

    Best wishes
    Steve

Because that is their modus-operandi on everything they sell. They take the 'worst case' scenario of a competitors product and compare it with their 'best case scenario' No attempt to compare 'like with like'.

Their gas and electricity 'guarantee' looks great until you read the small print and read that it excludes loads of tariffs and discounts offered by the major companies and doesn't include their club membership fee.

At least if you read this thread carefully you will find that even UW reps will admit that their gas and electricity is not competitive in price.

At the risk of yet another bout of posts from the 'UW defence team', Keggs' response to your post, whilst to be praised for its honesty, is astounding.

Many reps derive their UW income from recommending the UW products to friends and family(they are salesmen) on the basis that it will save them money, and yet we have an admission that few reps have any idea of the pricing ctructure of the product they sell.
