Could it be that people are now starting to see how much they could save by switching to Telecom Plus :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Now that should get things moving again!!!!!!

Penrhyn is confused, and not for the first time, I'm presently with Ebico and its gone up a tad!!
In the East Midlands, use 9000 ish kw Gas and 2000 ish kx electric. U switch recons I'd save £60 ( dunno if that includes the £21 membership fee) by shifting to Telecom plus, the comparison engine on Telecom Plus' website says I'd be paying £5-7 more with them. Don't think other comparison sites include Tplus.
Utility Warehouse is being promoted to members of the GEC/Marconi/Telent pension scheme at the moment which is whay I started looking at this thread.Up till now I had been with Grouch Marx in not wishing to join a club that wanted me to be a member.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Hiya!

Now Ebico is that the non for profit people?

I have only heard of these twice now, however all is not lost let me know what tariff you are on and I will look into this one for you and come back to you as you may have a wee problem trying to work out your savings as they work out the price by KWH and if I recall this is what you need to look at with them rather than how much KWH you use.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

  • I get it at approx the same price with Ebico and UW (£617 & £620 respectively), BUT that doesn't include the £21 club fee, so unless you go for the other services like line rental and broadband (I believe this is £20/mth but would then qualify you to receive free global calls 24/7), then you would be (just!) losing out with UW. I would have thought on your low usage UW would be highly uncompetitive compared to Ebico so I'm very surprised. Of course, my figures could be wholly wrong, lol.

Carmine is right Penrhyn. If it is only gas or electricity which you are interested in it probably isn't worth it at the moment. The saving is probably only marginal (although Madjock has said he will work something out accurately to see if it does benefit you).

It really depends on whether you want the other services. I have no idea whether I would save on my energy by switching away from UW to say Ebico. However, if I did I would no longer get free UK landline calls ( I can also call my niece in Australia and Brother in Law in Hong King for free, something I couldn't do before).. As I telephone people a lot on my landline it would foolish of me to move. I no longer worry what my phone bill is going to be nowadays compared to when I was with BT whose bill I couldn't understand anyway so had no real idea what I was really paying and whether it was right or wrong.

With my UW statement I get an itemised listing of every call, how much it cost (if anything - usually to mobiles) plus info on all my other services. This means more to me than any saving I might make by switching to another energy company. And even if I did now I probably won't some months down the line. So for me I'm staying put.

Incidentally, this hasn't anything to do with me being a distributor. But as far as that is concerned I also get discount off my own bill because I am my own customer as well as being a UW customer. I can't see BG or any other of the Big 6 allowing their customers to get a discount just because they are a customer.

The best advice I can give you is have a good think about what's important to you and then go from there. If it isn't worth changing now it might be in the future. But don't just look at your energy bills have a look at everything. Does the one bill for everything appeal to you? If it does then it might be worth becoming a member.

Certain individuals make much of the membership fee but the added value benefits for me outweigh this fee. But for some it doesn't. Only you will know.

    Good luck

Carmine, well put. This is exactly my point i made earlier. The average person dont want to keep swapping and wants a good deal year in and year out! This is where we have an advantage and is the point i make when sighning up new clients.

    .

Nice to see a quote from The Troll in your post - hasn't mellowed!

There is a certain irony that Carmine was the No 1 advocate of constantly swopping from company to company for cashback and I have little doubt that he has carried on in that fashion since he entered my 'ignore' list. Check his posts in other threads to confirm.

You should also be aware that the only reason he has become a fan of UW is simply because he feels there is 'Troll' mileage in doing so. However as Myself and(I hope Quentin) don't see his posts, his enthusiasm might wane.

As for the Hypocrite stakes. The arch anti-BG campaigner is a - er - BG customer, or was. Or perhaps he has joined 'The Club' - possibly as a rep - he would be absolutely suited to that role.
  • For someone who claims to have me on their ignore list and is therefore not in the slightest interested in my posts, old Hugh Jeego doesn't half like to bring me (and my posts) up in conversation, don't you think? Anyone who truly believes he doesn't read my posts probably also believes Mandy and Gordon Brown are bosom buddies... :rotfl:

I would have thought a troll can be seen as someone who contributes nothing to a thread other than personal putdowns and bluster. Step forward Mr Cardew...

Mustn't forget the cashback card :D . I was talking to someone yesterday who purchased a conservatory from Homebase. £4500! That would have been a welcome £208.65* off his utility bill!

    * Especially for you know who: Based on 5% of £4500 purchase price, less total £16 first year card charges, then 35p for loading of £4500 onto cashback card. **

** This is assuming he bought nothing else on the card in the first 12 months. :D

Cheers for looking at the figures guys, I would only be interested in the gas and electric.
Ebico's prices are closely related to Southern Electrics' who do the CS, billing etc.
I get broadband from Sky, and hardly use the mobile.
My annual usage in KWh was in my previous post and I'm in the East Midlands.
Having looked a little further there are some savings in swapping just my electric to BG Click 6, but I'm loathed to do this as I moved away 'cos their CS wasn't too good.

  • Ebico's leccy prices do seem rather uncompetitive, tbh. Ebico are £123 more than UW for leccy on my usage (5000kwh, Yorkshire region). Their gas is still 'OK', though. BIG rise, though, wasn't it?
