Sorry to hear of your problems - as far as I'm aware, wireless broadcall is only £5 per month extra?

I'm not IT/BB savvy, but will any existing wireless router you have work every time with UW BB?

It appears that you're okay/happy with the energy, having felt ripped off by BG, your BB speed has now been sorted, you're had problems with your previous supplier, yet you still give UW the 'thumbs down'. What more did you expect that you have not got? I'm interested to know what problems you have had that the rep doesn't want to know about?
Why £5 extra, I'm sure UW could provide these without the extra cost or at least advise the client a bit better than they do, but then they are not trained to give technical advice so I believe.

Most modern modem wireless routers that use a phone line will work with UW service if they are ADSL2+2 compliant they will get better speeds. I have a 5 year old Linksys modem which is compliant with ADSL2 +2 and the reception is perfect. Myself I like to be hard wired leaving the wife wireless and me only if I roam.

The speeds are fine on the broadband but then I live only 650 m from the exchange and get 10.5 Mb. My daughter is using UW and only gets 1.7Mb and is on Broadcall plus, I suspect her line needs to be upgraded because attenuation and noise should allow speeds higher than my connection.
I don't know what the ID told you, but surely it's up to Tiscali to close your account with them, esp. if they have issued a MAC code?

What is wrong with the UW telephone service that you have 'batted on about' on other threads, enough not to have to go through it again.' You've only made 5 posts on here.

I'm not doubting you, just interested to see what other ID's are promising, and whether or not they should be given what they are actually able to do.
Just spoke to the wife about the closing of the Tiscali account and she confirmed it was to be closed by UW, however, Tiscali have a habit of doing this to people, it took five attempts by phone to persude these people that I was not using their services, in the end I had to get hold of Tiscali CEO to get it sorted out. It is now closed so that story is closed. It was the rep that said once the forms were signed that's all we had to do an he would take it from there and I did ask if he was sure and he confirmed it.

The landline is not good, I get 2 calls a day from the Talk Talk people with a reversing call and that drives me up the wall, we are registered with TPS and are X directory which apparently means nothing these days. This I learnt today is not a UW problem and I will deal with it direct with Talk Talk or Jigsaw. I think Talk Talk are on an aggressive sales drive at the moment and they are in your face everywhere.

Gas and electric - can't fault them and the rates seem fair after BG messing us about and I like the fact that you can take a reading and submit once a month so you know exactly where you are.

Communications today with UW have been fast and supportive so I am now a satisfied customer and the thumb is turned up;) I realise that sometimes things take a bit of time to bed in, I suppose I expect too much.

    Hi NevGeorge and welcome.

Just a word of warning - expect to be attacked for now stating you give UW a thumbs up.

I hope you are satisfied for a long time. I'm sorry the person who introduced you has been a bit 'off' - is he new? It can be difficult for new IDs so be patient with him. As we are not trained in the same way as traditional sales people, it is a constant learning experience so we can make mistakes. We are customers first and IDs second. I wonder how many BG sales people are actually customers of BG?

Wait for the flak for that last comment.

I've actually been around for a couple of years under a different user name which I couldn't remember since I set it up, thanks for the welcome though. Not bothered about attacks on here I've been through the wringer before only done by professionals not amateurs :D;)

Everyone is on a sales drive at the moment, just had BG banging on the door:rolleyes:

How dare you come on this thread and say you are happy with UW – disgraceful!

    P.S.
This post is simply to make Keggs happy, he gets so little right, is so easily pleased, and he doesn’t ‘do irony';)

10.5mb must be great - I did the test you suggested on Speednet and get 2.23 personally. Whilst this isn't a 'problem', any increase would be more than welcome.

Your 'rep' is 'living dangerously' suggesting that signing the forms is all that is needed - I can't speak for everyone, but I certainly wouldn't be comfortable asserting this, after all, no company wants to lose a customer and would probably fight tooth and nail to keep them - any problems then look bad on you...

We have a TPS problem ourselves, although that is 'holiday home/timeshare' related. We have a place abroad and are constantly bombarded with calls asking if we want to sell - despite telling them every time we're TPS registered, they insist on telling us that the company they represent is based outside of the UK and that they don't have to adhere to the TPS rules - like this is going to suddenly get us on their side and make us more receptive to their patter?!

  • So did I, actually. And let's face it, an (intentionally) amusing Cardew post is about as rare as rocking horse doodoo so should be treasured. ;)
