Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

People are now beginning to make themselves look rather silly now by trying to pick fault with the new cashcard. As the number of shops grows to cover the likes of Tesco, Morrisons, Gap and so on, UWs growth will be spectacular.
One extra thought, the management team at UW isn't made up of people without huge business experience and dare I say it contacts.
It is also interesting to note that some people harp on about UW's charges being higher. Could I respectfully ask these people to write a comparison list of all the charges UW charges with another list of all the major players charges, together with the added value benefits offered by all the utility companies.
I joined UW not just because I could and do save money OVERALL on my bills (and not one particular service) but also because they give me added value eg one bill with everything on it to name just one.
Yes, I agree that I have to pay a small monthly charge but so what. £2 is a small price to pay as far as I am concerned. The company delivers for me. It delivers for many other people as well. You will never know whether it would benefit people visiting this site until they try the company out for themselves. Just because a few regular antagonists constantly argue everything about UW from what they charge to how they gather customers, is negative (even their money-saving hero wouldn't dream of saying that) should not influence. Nor should UW distributors posting here influence. You should make your own mind up. If it doesn't work out for you, that's a pity, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work for someone else. To say otherwise insults thousands of happy customers.

From a personal viewpoint, all I'd like this thread to do is show 'customer satisfaction' comments from pure users, not from anyone with any kind of vested interest in the company declared or otherwise.
I'm thinking of switching and, sadly, can see little by way of help or advice which might sway me one way or the other on the thread.
Could I make a plea for a few short, up-to-date comments from actual UW customers..?0 -

Absolutely. I'd appreciate that too as I'm also thinking of signing up.
Can anyone supply a landline number for their sales dept? The one listed on saynoto0870 doesn't work.0 -
Hi Alan
The company don't have a sales department as such. However their Customer Service number is 0844 815 3130.
However I'm not sure whether they can help you as this number is normally used by members of the UWDC. That said, they may be able to put you in touch with a local distributor. Obviously I may be wrong in this and they may be able to do so over the phone. There is is scheme in place now for UW customers to refer their friends but that's a special freephone number.
As I am not allowed to promote myself (which is fair enough) that's the best I can say here I suppose.
You can sign up online but again you might have to visit a distributor's web site.
The whole point of UW is that it is done by word of mouth. As such as well as spreading the word, UW distributors should be looking after you as well if they are doing what they are supposed to do.
As a general reference point I might contact UW and them if there is a scheme for people still in place whereby people can contact them direct. If there is a scheme I'll let you know unless this classed as spamming, which I don't want to be accused of again.
I hope this helps.

As it seems most of their members are recruited by a relative/friend rep it's going to be hard to get truly independent reviews.
There are a number of comments here:

Although reviewers aren't required to declare an interest if they have one, it isn't too hard to work out which are written by "customers" with vested interests.
As far as MSE members are concerned, if it was the answer to everything the reps keep telling us it is, don't you think there would be loads of us queueing up to join, and report about it here?0 -

Ebico gets almost universal praise from its customers (on here and other forums) but has, apparently, just 40,000 customers. The millions of customers the Big 6 have each is testimony to the fact that people don't tend to gravitate to the ones with the best prices/service, more to the ones who advertise the most.Call me Carmine....

Hi Charlton and Alan
As you rightly point out, this thread mainly swings backwards and forwards between UW reps and non customers, often not very constructive for an un-biased view.
I will try and give you a summary of my take on UW.
- If you are looking for the very cheapest gas, electricity and telephony, and are prepared to change suppliers frequently, then UW is not for you.
- Also, if you are looking for a "specialist" solution for, say, broadband with very high upload and download requirements and high pings etc. , then UW is not for you.
- UW provide a consolidated solution to a customers needs that represents good value and provides this solution on one monthly bill for a monthly membership fee.
- UW is not a generic provider of utilities and, as such, it has to focus on value and customer support to survive in the market.
- This customer support is ideally provided by the UK service centre and your local UW representative. For example, in my case, customers can either contact HQ or me if they have any problems.
- The overall objective of UW is to retain customer loyalty by providing value, support and innovation over the long term.
That is my brief summary of UW. It is not the solution for everyone, obviously, and you need to decide on what is most important to you as a customer.
As you will see from my signature, I do have a vested interest in UW and have been a customer and distributor for some years.
All the best

Vested interests? Vested interests? The very thought!
You might get threatened with legal action for even implying such a possibility!!0
