    Hi Choc

You got an answer but as usual there was a sarcastic tone to the reply. Thought I'd point it out in case others thought it was a serious reply.

I wonder why you seek my views on any UW product as you indicate I am biased against UW(apparently hate UW!!) Well as you ask:

    1. To have the cashback card you have to be a UW customer.

    2. I have not the remotest wish to ever be a a UW customer so have not looked at the merits/demerits of the card.

    3. If anyone is a UW customer, I am absolutely confident that the card will conform to the business ethics of UW.

    4. Quentin raises concerns, and he is invariable correct about all things UW.

Is that the sort of ringing endorsement you had in mind?

Classic! :rotfl: Cardew's post should have subtitles:

I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING REMOTELY NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT THE CASHBACK CARD BUT FELT FOR THE SAKE OF MY EGO I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING.

PS How can he say he hasn't looked at the merits/demerits of the card when he earlier stated that Quentin was demolishing 'you' single-handedly? How would he know that what Quentin was saying was correct if he hasn't looked at the card details personally? Yet MORE bluster, I'm afraid. :p

Just thought i would share this with you all. Ive always found this companies energy prices and the triple value guarantee fair.I'll explain why!
Everyone has gone on about how this online tariff and that online tariff has beat our standard tariff, well yes it has until now.Click 5 now works out dearer for me than our standard prices, our price is now cheaper! So now the folks on that deal have got to switch AGAIN,i havent!!! Now for people whom use this site and the ones whom switch every month it isnt a problem but for the average guy in the street working 10 hours a day it is a problem because he cant be bothered.Get my point?

Nobody has bothered to comment on this.So if you guys switched your friends and family with your good free advice to Click 5 now you have to get them to switch again or they will not be very happy with you when they find out they are paying over the top yet again.BG wont do this off their own back will they?
This is the whole point about UW,our customers on a long term good deal year in and year out.

  • My Sainsburys loving mate asked me to calculate the potential cashback on the card if he just used that instead of his normal debit card. He and his wife spend at least £150 a week there on food and fuel (2 car family with 3 teenaged kids). Having looked at the other stores quoted, he reckons a 'conservative' monthly spend for them on the card would be £800. I have taken into account the £16 first year cost of card, the 35p loading fees AND even the 'lost' interest on the £800 deposit each month. Cashback (OK, Quentin, CREDIT off his UW bill) would come to precisely £420 per year! When you consider on his usage (he's currently on Click 5) the Gas/Electric would be the same cost each month with UW, it's a bit of a no-brainer, isn't it?

    Hi Mark

Excellent point which rate followers deliberately ignore. It might also interest you to know that I went to see a couple recently who wanted to switch to us but forgot they had signed up for a so called capped rate. If they had have been able to switch to UW they would have saved around 30-40 %. They could pay to get out of their contract (which by the way UW doesn't have) but felt they had to stay because they didn't want to pay to do so. Very understandable.

The thing is these people told me they follow religiously the advice that the owner of this site makes but as we all know recently he realised that capped rates are not as good as he believed. The couple now feel let down. I asked to keep in touch with them and they were happy for me to do so.

I and other happy UW customers will not change now for exactly the reason you pointed out.

    Best wishes

While posting the above I noticed a link under fun stuff (on the right). I clicked on the site and noticed it mentioned vouchers to save money. It crossed my mind about the new cashback card that it can be used in conjunction with sale offers such as the one listed. I don't think Gap is one of the outlets listed but it probably will be one day.

The point is that a UW member who also has a cashback card will not just get a saving on their voucher or coupon or whatever the shop is offering but they will get an extra 5% on top using the cashback card.

I know that it is money 'off' the normal UW monthly bill but so what. I decided to do a little maths on my oown family food shopping bill. We currently shop at Tesco so at the moment won't benefit from this but I think that will change in the not too distant future.

Anyway, the monthly shopping bill is currently around £160 possible more. A 5% cashback amounts to £8 - not a lot I agree but it will be £8 off my UW utility bill. In time if I get into the habit of using it at other outlets, the amount of cashback paid back onto my UW bill increase substantially. So my utility bill will go down.

For customers who have no wish to become distributors now have the chance to get further discount off their own bills if they refer their friends to UW. If they also have a cashback card the potential discount they could get off their own utility bills could be tremendous - very useful in these credit crunch days.

In fact it seems that if these customers refer just 10 friends and they take up 4 services they could get a discount of 20%. Add 5% for the cashback card and I would say that's a tidy amount of money off their own bills.

Does BG or BT or Virgin or anyone these wonderful companies offer their customers the chance to actually stop paying utility bills completely?

I know some people prefer to get proper cash back and not put on their bills. BUt what's the difference in reality.

    Hi Choc

Actually I'm not really sure how much we spend. My wife pays for the shopping. One less bill for me but the cashback will come in handy on it.:j

Wow. Spend £2000 at Sainsbury's and get £100 off your utility bill. Alternatively, shop at Tesco and spend £1600 for the same stuff or shop at Asda and spend £1500. Then you can pay the £100 (or only £90, since UW's charges are higher) and still have three or four hundred pounds left over.

Spivs feasting on chavs. Me heart bleeds.
  • TBH, KY, this post is (sadly) up to your usual standard  People can shop where they like, you know. My mate has always shopped at Sainsburys, won't shop anywhere else and that's his choice. For someone like him, this card is a no-brainer. No-one is trying to force people to shop at Sainsburys in order to get money off their utility bill, you know, but for existing customers ( I would imagine hundreds of 1000s shop there every week of their own accord) it's a brilliant innovation, a development that has caused consternation to many of the usual suspects/naysayers on here when they try and pick fault (actually, only Quentin has even attempted). Plus there are other shops in the scheme, you know (the likes of Argos, Topshop, etc) so it's not as if they have to exclusively shop at Sainsburys.

I realise you were being intentionally provocative, but hey ho...
