I welcome comments and suggestions from anybody, UW supporter or not!

You won't have "welcomed" getting the "biased" and downright misleading comment you got from uw rep keggs then? (No other uw rep bothered to correct him - or challenge the £50 saving he mentioned)

Were you not using this independent forum, but had used the uw reps forum they cynically push here, how very "welcome" (and unchallenged) their comments would be!

As you want to retain the cashcard, and will now give up UW's Broadband, may I make a suggestion.

    Get BT's phone.

If you make 1 or more weekday phonecalls, get BT Anytime for £4.95(all landline calls included and 0870/0845)

Find which of your gas and electricity services cost you least. Retain that service and move the other to the cheapest supplier.

They are annual predicted spend over the 12 months
NOT what you have actually used then.

So why Nige are UW 19% more expensive than my current tariff?
You still haven't told us what your actual usage is on you current tariff, so I can't comment. If your "predicted" usage is the same as your actual usage then obviously Utility Warehouse is not for you as you do not want to use the pre payment card. Just because it does not work out for you, does not mean that Utility Warehouse will not be a best buy for others.

You mean like your Utility Warehouse pre payment card beating cashback card that you still haven't posted a link to?

A great deal on a netbook for UW cardholders. Acer with an unusually large (for a netbook, of course) 11.6" display. None of that horrible Vista nonsense, either. XP all the way...

Currently on offer for £249 at Comet. Apply code 3150AW at checkout to get it down to £241.53, go through topcashback for 3.5% cashback (even if you click and collect), taking it down to £233.08. Then pay with your UW card and get a tidy £12.08 off your UW bill (which would have left me with change from my gas charge for last month). Net price effectively £221.

Thanks for this Carmine. I've been thinking about getting a netbook for a while now and this certainly looks like a good deal!

Plus, of course, it'll bring my total monthly utility expenditure down, even further! Sweet!

  • You've very welcome, Maz! I was seriously tempted by the Acer netbook but I've gone instead for the emachines notebook:

    http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/563528/EMACHINES-EME625-203G16MI#

Very decent spec for the money (3gb RAM, Athlon F-20 processor etc) and, whisper it, it's actually a slightly better-specced Acer AS5516 in 'disguise'. ;)

Wit the code discount, topcashback and UW bill discount, this comes in at approx £284 net. Another great deal (the emachines notebook we got our son has proved a great buy so far).
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??

Can somebody be kind enough to answer a couple of simple questions about BT?

    1. If I was to sign up with BT would I be locked into a contract?
    2. How much is BT line rental, i'm not bothered about caller display, answer machine service etc. Just bog standard line rental.

    Thanks!
    Janninew

    Janninew.

To enable me to give you a more comprehensive answer.

Were you a BT Customer before you moved to Talk Talk, and is your phone line/ broadband unbundled with UW.

So I take it we are not going to have any response about UW 'blowing away BT' on standalone phone charges?

Also have 'your people' not got any answer about BG Click price when it was introduced?

You are indeed safer, and better suited, to becoming this thread's resident high street bargain spotter instead of posting all the incorrect nonsense about UW products. Carmine the 'Grab-It' specialist.

I note that Keggs/Vinny/Maz/ et al have not yet found ways of helping you out yet.

    1. Yes for at least 12 - 18 mths

    2. About £11 if I remember rightly - about £50 more than UW's HomePhone line rental

    Keggs.

    1. A customer moving to BT with a working non cable line would normally be placed on a 12 month contract . No difference to UW,s 12 month contract.

    2. BT,s line rental (online billing) is £11.25 a month if you pay by d/d.

( It,s also possible to get this reduced to £10.25 a month by the addition of a £12 credit).

Were you mislead by UW,s site where they compare UW d/d price against BT,s non d/d price.
