    Where has Cardew gone??
Why do people seem to disappear for a few days when proven wrong? For when you reappear this was my quote from 22nd July.

The last time i went on a price comparision web-site (about 3 weeks ago) UW were in the top 10 for me, so obviously everybody gets different results. So the statement above is obviously personal to you, not everybody is going to get the same results as you, so UW won't always be in 50+ position as stated.

It doesn't actually state that i entered any actual meter reading figures does it? I only entered info about my house, rooms etc. Maybe i should have made this clear (though i didn't realise quite how pedantic people were on here!!)

So how have i posted incorrect information? How am i digging myself into a hole? I have always been 100% honest on this thread, but i don't think you can say the same!
I believe you have been caught out posting incorrect information regarding French and Sauners advertising UW on tv, have you not?? I haven't seen this post i admit, but you did post this incorrect information, did you not?
Not quite sure how you can accuse me of posting misleading information, when you have been caught out doing just that!

Also can you answer a question that i have twice asked you, have UW ever been considered to be competative for there gas/electric?
    Thanks
    Jannine

Cardew disappears frequently when challenged reagrding his own money saving regime. You know, the cash back card he (clearly) doesn't use, the store he buys his groceries in (I have always had this feeling in my waters that he actually DOES shop at Sainsburys, you know, but daren't admit it :D ). That's the AUWF - long on rhetoric, short on facts.

Even Martin has speculated they are worth approx 3 times the value - and that was before they started imposing limits on the holiday spend. I can't believe I'm having to explain this but here goes; the true value of the deals tokens can only be ascertained by comparing the cost of you paying cash for the item/holiday/whatever and taking into account any special offers offered. We all know (I hope!) that clubcard deals are not allowed on special offer deals. For instance, cinema tickets. Go on Orange Wednesay and we can get admittance for 2 for approx £6. Cost in vouchers for 2 tickets? £6. Not £1.50. £6 in actual vouchers. £600 worth of fuel, in other words. Check out paidtoshop for the real value of these things.

Let me repeat myself, I used £32.50 worth of clubcard vouchers to get £130 off a holiday that was the same price it would have been had I paid by cash or any other means.

How is that not 4 times the value?
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Watch out for the "false" price con!
Tesco claim to give 4X value voucher deals with Cosmos Holidays - this is a con based on my recent experience. I checked on the internet a Cosmos holiday available at £3,600.00, the Cosmos brochure max price at the height of the season (when I wasn't going) was around £4,000.00 - but when I phoned through (which you have to do - no internet booking facility) on the dedicated Cosmos Tesco voucher line the EXACT same holiday was quoted as costing £4,600.00 not £3,600.00! This meant that I was paying a "false" price in order to use my vouchers and devalued their worth to approx. 2X value! When I complained to Tesco with these details they didn't want to know - so watch out for this sharp practice which surely must be illegal?

I am afraid I had to go and do some grocery shopping - from Publix(a fine shop) - sadly no cashcard though.

So how have i posted incorrect information?

If you really cannot understand how your "UW were in the top 10 - about 3 weeks ago" post was misleading and incorrect information - then there really is not much point in continuing this series of posts.

It seems that all you are doing is giving excuses why you got it so wrong!!!

To go back to your earlier question, I understand that some years ago UW did indeed have competitive gas and electricity prices. However they quickly became uncompetitive and now have without any question some of the very highest gas and electricity prices in UK.

You don't have to take my word for it, just enter your consumption figures(it really does help!!!) into any comparison website and UW is invariably one of the most expensive suppliers in UK.

Anyway, about the cash back card you use for your shopping? And where you shop for groceries? And where you shop for fuel? What would you recommend here? Not the most difficult questions I could ask of you but seemingly impossible for you to answer without you losing what shred of credibility you have remaining.

PS What comparison site would you recommend as being entirely accurate?

I admitted that i should have made it more clear in my post of the 22nd July, it doesn't mean i posted incorrect information! You read my post wrong - simple!! I don't see how i got anything wrong? I went on a comparision site, entered information and posted my results!
I don't mind continuing this post, i have nothing to hide! I see you haven't mentioned your misleading post though regarding UW's advertising!
I am however grateful that you answered my question regarding UW being competitive in the past - thank you for this.
There isn't to much point in me entering my figures into a comparsion site as it doesn't take into account my spending on the cashback card, so the results will not be accurate! The only figure i am remotly bothered in is the one on my bill each month, not a random figure on a comparsion site which i believe aren't very accurate anyway!
    Thanks for the response.

Thanks for that link Carmine! It made me chuckle, how can Cardew tell me to enter my figures into a comparision site, yet on the same day start another thread titled More Comparison Network 'tricks' and how these sites will resort to any 'legal' means to get people to switch, so the companies can get commission?

    I'm really confused now!! :D

LOL, janninew. I'm not sure what's happened to Cardew of late but he's making mistakes aplenty! I wonder if Cardew and any other members of the AUWF will contribute to this thread in order to express their disgust?:D

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts Southern electric claim customers will get discount for using a uk company
I had a salesman at my door wanting me to sign up to Southern Electric, and one pitch he used is that he said the government were offering a 17% (or so) tax discount to Southern Electric as it is a UK based and owned company unlike many other providers. He said the government wanted to do this to encourage customers to stimulate the UK economy. He said SE would pass this on to customers.
Does anyone know if there is any truth in this claim or is just embellishing?

For years on this website I have been critical of comparison websites as they are motivated(naturally) to maximise commission, achieved by getting people to switch supplier.

If they can present information in a manner that induces people to switch they will do so if possible. The recent Parliamentary Committee on Energy stated a huge percentage of people actually switched to a more expensive tariff - Not all the fault of the comparison websites of course.

That said, if you enter your consumption figures(and not £££s) you get an accurate answer.

The case I quoted was 'misleading' in that it dealt with my fixed tariff. Admittedly the answers were there if you looked for them.

It will no doubt be of great interest to you and UW reps that I put in my figures to get a comparison with UW prices. I was alerted to the misleading result when it stated that UW were only £590 pa more expensive than my BG tariff. I knew the differential had to be much more than this and when I checked more thoroughly indeed UW were £797 pa more than my BG tariff.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to point this out?;)

Just a quick question regarding comparision sites. Do they pay all the energy companies commission? Are there any independant sites out there?
