I know this thread is for Telecom plus, but is there a 'Utility Warehouse' thread just for the Gas and Electric?

If npower DID purchase UW I'm not convinced they would disrupt its way of doing business - let's face it as has been mentioned earlier (by someone attempting to put the company down, bizarrely?) the return on equity with thsi company is stratospheric. They are incredibly successful relative to resources. And growing 50% year on year, which is quite extraordinary in such a mature market. Whilst the other suppliers are increasingly resorting to one-off (and subsidised) forays into limited edition online tariffs, massive cashback inducements (£100 from Spanish Power, anyone??) this company spend basically nowt on selling their product and still get extraordinary returns.

I also think the 280,000 customers will be very used to getting a paper bill each month and, let's be entirely honest, npower wouldn't be replicating that any time soon if they just brought UWs existing customer base into the traditional npower way of doing business ('we give you £105 discount but you have to stay with us for 12 months before you get a sniff').

I'm sure from a shareholder's POV (which I now have to take into account, lol) an npower takeover would be very welcome financially, of course. Awful company, though. Yuk.

I believe this is the only thread where people are allowed to discuss UW/Telecom Plus so everything gets discussed in here. And I mean everything. It was actually an online book club last night (I take the blame for that one :o)

    Thanks for the info :D.

I just wanted general feedback on this company, as was approached the other day in a shop, well, to be fair, it wasnt me, it was my hubby, and they were trying to get him to change from BG to UW.

They gave him some leaflets, and suggested we look on thier website, which I just did.

I know they guarentee to be cheaper than BG and Southern elec, and I can see that in thier tarriffs, but what I did notice is that they want to charge you standing charge per month, plus a monthly fee as its a discount club.

So, I am wondering if its worth changing, as BG and SE dont charge a standing charge, well, I dont think they do, am not sure now lol.

I just want to find out if people who have changed to UW benifited or not from it.

Many thanks in advance for any replies. :D

Utility Warehouse are not the cheapest. If your looking for cheaper energy suggest you go here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity and check out a few comparism sites mentioned later in article.

Having said that if you shop at Sainsburys they do have an interesting cashback card scheme which can be used to reduce your energy bill.

By the way did they hook your hubbie in on a Win a Mini Leaflet?

    Lets put it this way
Go to Ryanair and you'll seats offered for say £10 each way. Great you think, now you start adding all the extras, the final bill is a lot more than £20.

Find out your usage for the past year, go to any comparison site and enter the details. In fact try 3 or 4 different sites, take a look at the total cost for the year. Under no circumstances allow anyone to give you a quote based on your DDs or the amount you spend. Only base it on your usage, it's the genuine way to see the real price differences between companies and tariffs.

Sure you get a discount card for Sainsburys' but Carmine spends £500pm in Sainsburys' and it saves him around £100pa by having EVERYTHING with one company.

As you're with BG, look at their WebSaver 3 online tariff, you could save yourself some money that way.

It isn;t the company I was putting down it's the tactics I have personally experienced being employed by a number of their "independent" salespeople.

280,000 customers, hmm, I also read in a post here that their salesforce has grown by 4200pa since 2002., so thats 10 customers per salesperson. That's why I own shares, their own "independents" fund the companies growth.

People who have changed to UW will always say they have benefited, because they earn money by signing up others.

Just read the last few pages of this thread. If you are comfortable with the paranoid/evangelical tone of the pro-UW posters, then take it further, do your research using the price comparison sites and see if it is the best deal for you. If it isn't, and you don't feel morally blackmailed by the acquaintance who brought UW to your notice, then steer well clear...
